Don't work too hard Jeff. Happy Canada Day to you too. Hope you had a good one :).

Not a bad long weekend for myself and 2 buddies on the Hit em Hard boat. We boxed 10 springs between 9 and 20 lbs, 5 hatch coho 1 nice ling, and 1 good size yellow eye. Also released many springs shaker size to 12ish lbs and lots of wild coho. The yellow eye we picked up in 190 ft. of water with the counter reading 130. considering blow back this fish was 1/2 way up the water column - go figure. we had our best results at the red can however we did fish a good portion of the Amphritite bank. Small green spoons at varying depths seemed to be the ticket for us. I am stuck at home now for the next couple of weeks but will be back in Ukee for 9 straight days beginning July 13. Missed you at the boat basin Enniberg o well maybe next time.
h.e.h.

The weather suppose to be good next week and I'll be fishing out of Island West Resort. I hope the fishing picks up again for us old guys. It's getting tougher and tougher for me to run the straits to Ucluelet BC. This area has been pretty good to us and got our biggest fish here.

Got 2 cohoes at Begg Is and 2 springs between Sail and G. Bear this am. Done by 8:30. Faster action than Big bank the day before.

Has anyone been going north i.e. Portland Point or outside toward S.W. corner? South Bank has always been good to us but, just wondering about other places outside.

Wasn't out today but I heard it was on fire sounded like everyone did very well and were in early with nice size fish. Heard reports from Portland offshore all the way to the Turtle Head were very productive lots of fish caught between 80 - 130 in 170ft of water were most productive and on the bottom was apparently decent as well. Lots of halibut coming in to. Reports fish moving down the coastline to the Ucluelet grounds potentially the run from the Raphle area a couple days ago are a good size average. This weekend is going to be great fishing for everyone!

Out in Ucluelet this week with the family and fished off shore today. Nothing epic but consistent action through the morning. Got started by 8am and done by 2pm. We kept 5 Chinook 10 - 20lbs. Bites from 80ft to 130ft with the biggest coming with my 15 yr old daughter at the rods. Must have been 20++ as it was ripping the line off the reel and proved to much as it shook itself loose. Valiant try though! Rough ride back with the winds up and found back at the dock my transducer broke. Need to look for a replacement before heading back out. Any thoughts on where to find a Lowrance 50/200khz transducer? I'm hoping I don't have to head to Nanaimo in the morning to find one...

Hey Kodyman, sounds like you had a great time out there. When you said you went offshore, where was it. big bank, star fish..Looking for an approx spot. Trying to find the big springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We spent most of our time on the Southwest side of south bank, not too far out.

Nice report Kody, glad to hear S. bank is doing okay, always nice to save the fuel if we can. Going up 7/28 - 8/4, boat will be at island West, four of us camping at Ukee Campground hope to meet some more of you guys this year. Can't wait, keep the reports coming. Sounds like it has been windy this year, what site do most of you use for forcast's?

Unless the housing is cracked for the base of the transducer you could just silicon it into the hull of your boat and it will still work fine; but if your boat is aluminum you may be out of luck and have to purchase another one.
If you drive to Tuff city and go to RPM just before you come into town he should be able to help you; he is a Lowrance dealer! Good Luck!

Ok, here's a fishing report from a bit of a greenhorn to the area and it isn't pretty. Fished most of Tuesday at Southbank and Swale. No fish,no bites. Very few fish coming into the docks. DFO gal said that she had seen very few fish all day. Heard that fish were biting out on Big Bank and most who ventured out did very well. Heard a similar story from everyone I spoke too. Lots of head scratching as Southbank was very good on Sunday and Monday.

Today, blowing hard in the morning so fished near the harbour entrance until about 10. Wind quieted down a little and we took the trip out to Big Bank. Blanked again. A couple of bites but nothing even to the boat.

We tried pretty much every depth and everything from hootchies to spoons to chovie on teaser heads. Feeling a little snake bitten after two straight days without a fish. Ukie had spoiled me in previous years with limiting out in the morning and hitting the pub in the afternoon :)

Anyone else have much luck? Any advice, thoughts would be welcome. Given my zero for 2 performance over the last couple of days feel free to taunt me and question my manhood too.

The good news is that I will be here for several more days and have a chance to redeem myself.

Swell watch says tomorrow is better for wind. Try up off Portland Point with stops at SW corner and Starfish/Hyson maybe Carpe. Ride the wind back to Ukee if it comes up. Let us know. We'll be there Sat/Sun and wind looks challenging again.

The fish are moving around a lot more this year than others.... mostly because the bait isn't where it usually is for some reason. In Tofino we are getting the salmon in some areas that we usually don't but we ARE still getting them, some days limiting out in 2 hours or less. I don't fish down where the Ukee guys fish much but i do know that they have been doing well at the Big Bank for a few weeks. Inside info is key but you won't get it on a fishing forum.

here is a late report with some pictures from our latest Ukee adventures. This time we spent 10 days and as usual we had a blast!

When we go to Ukee it is holiday for us, and fishing is rather leisurely, but we never seem to have a problem bringing home some fish for the freezer, and despite prevalent winds that forced us to fish inside more than we usually do, we still did ok.

We fished Beg, Crowe, Sail Rock and Sargison Bank on the inside, and south bank and lighthouse bank on the outside.

Easy limits of coho - released a pile of them, especially at Crowe they were abundant.
Easy limits of springs too, but not much for size for us - my son caugh the biggest ones at 22 & 24 lbs.
Released a bunch of pinks on the south bank too.
Halibut at biting all over south bank and lighthouse bank. 8 in total for our boat. All of them on the downrigger and 2 while trolling mid water for salmon. Halis were generally small - smaller than previous years.
1 ling cod that had swallowed a rock cod that took the spoon.
1 "something" that grabbed a hoochie on the bottom and nearly spooled us before it was suddenly gone.

Tried jigging a few times, with very poor results - I really need to get some lessons from Sculpin in the fine art of jigging!;)

Beer batter halibut - caught a couple of hours earlier - pretty hard to beat!

Huge sunfish out on the south bank - this picture does it no justice - it looked to be well over 6 ft.
