2009-Barkley-Bamfield-Poett Nook Fish Reports

ya rummor came to the mckay dock that you got a few in the 30s yesterday off the rats nose is this true?

I fished there all day and ended up with the limit for the four guys in my boat but biggest was 25 lbs and just ping pong paddel halis.

And yes alot of coho out there

Got home from 4 days in Barkley tonight. We fished mainly Swale and up to the bluffs a bit. When the bite was on action was pretty steady. we finished up with a couple short of our limit. Springs from 10 to 22 pounds and a bunch of coho. Great trip, Surprised how many clipped coho we got into. Was good.

No place I would rather be (FISH ON)

Hey jon im not in hospital and it aint nuttin but a thang. Ill be there next week with the crew for some slayin slabs and barndoors dont you worry. Ill also make sure to sneeze in your face. Tight lines

The wall gave up a 31lber 2 nights ago on the night bite. Fish are getting bigger by the day with offshore bumping up in size too. This summer has been unreal for fishing so far, the numbers of fish out here are just awesome. Need some more slabs though...they'll be coming I know it.

Have a couple of cancellations for August if anyone is looking for a prime spot. Just call the resort. 1-877-728-2301.

Rumor has it the boys at Lucky Lodge had a big weekend, brought in a top rod from the Victoria area to clean up!!;) The Rats nose was the hotspot with springs up to 30lbs filling the coolers. Most guys inside and at the South dealing with smaller springs but a decent school hanging off the nose produced action with Tyee sized fish!!:D

Pass the Pack

Fishing on the bank is getting hotter everyday. Limits of springs to 30 is becoming the norm, and all of them were between 21-35 feet on Tuesday when I was out.

Fishing a few miles west of the nose, lings are beginning to show as well.

Some decent fish showing in the usual locations inshore, but I haven't been after them for over a week now. Will look this evening.

Gimee the gaff!!!

Just got a call from my Dad fishing inside (Pill, Diplock, Chup) and he says he's never seen so many dogfish. He's with a group of 3 boats and all of them are experiencing the same thing. They are going relativly fast (2). They've run out of bait on them and are using plugs and spoons and the dogs are still hitting. Weird. Just came on over the last week.

Thanks, I'll be heading out there in 2 weeks. Only 20 -30 feet deep on the banks for big springs? thats unheard of isnt it?

Ya, we left Pill Point last Saturday after everyone of the 10 or so boats there started hitting doggy double headers. I troll faster than most and was still hitting them.

20-30 feet isn't the most common depth out there for them, but if you pull up to a field of boiling bait and not a diving bird in sight...

Was a real treat for sure. Double headers of coho and a spring, both of either species, it was great. Certainly wasn't the same story today!

Gimee the gaff!!!

any one have a current update on the fishing inside and the dogs?

Hey fog ducker if you ever need someone to watch your boat for a weekend while you are out of town I am your guy.

A little late report from last week. Had to figure out the picture thing. Great time with my budy and little bro. My friend Jeff showed me a secret spot to Hali fish called 7 mile. After bobing around for 10 minutes with no action on the heavy gear Buddy Greg ties a 4oz Dymara jig to my mooching rod with 30lbs line, drops to the bottom and bang!! After tuging on the mooching rod for an hour and listing to him whine about how sore he was getting, we finaly saw it. As we are all profesional rookies at this halibut fishing I figured "Who Needs a Harpoon" when your only looking for little hali's. After gaffing, stabing, swaring at the fish for ten minutes we had it hog tied and bleading off the side of the boat. Threw the heavy rigging back down and Mike (little bro) finished off the bite with a even 30 pounder.
The folowing day Jeff showed us another spot "Big Bank". After running off shore untill I'm sure we had exited Canadian waters we stoped and fished. Coho all over the surface, Wow. Well the novilty wore of after an hour of not being abable to get below 100 feet with the down riggers, and limit of hachery. You see I have old manual Penn hand cranks with 15 lbs balls I borowwed from Jeff. (Jeff, those eliptical shaped balls with the fin were awsome, verry little drag. Where did you get them?)Finaly we had to move away from the Coho to a diferent part of the bank where we finished up with limits of springs & little hali's from the bottom. Had a nice tired spring at the surface about 40 feet behind the boat, top of the flasher out of the water. Then sudenly a dolphin leaps on the fish and smashes it off the hook. I don't know if he was playing or hungery? After a smoking BBQ at the Barn, got up and did it all over again except the water was like glass that day. Got foged out last couple days and headed home back to Pender Harbor with the boat. While waiting for the boat hauler in Alberni we trolled around the Stamp Narows for an hour, picked up a couple good sockeye's to top it all off. 1 hour over the hump, 1 hour across the strait to make it home for diner.(fresh sockeye)
