2009-Barkley-Bamfield-Poett Nook Fish Reports

Theres been LOTS of fish in the past week that were 40+ lbs. Grats to your wife for catching that hog. Havent heard of any over fifty but saw a 47 at the docks last tuesday.

Hoochies and HotSpot flashers. It didn't seem to matter what color flasher we used. I believe it was more the proper action that worked. We fished 125 to 135ft. Used Green/white glow hoochie with a chrome skirt. 42inch leader and double 5/0 hooks. The bigger one I lost for my wife was caught on a glow-white hoochie with a chrome skirt with two red beeds and single 4/0 hook. I kept mess'in with the length about an inch at a time until I started to get some hits. Ton's of Silvers in the upper 75ft range. You gotta be quick or a silver will hit you lure on the surface. Had no luck trolling the bottom. BTW, noticed that kings weren't full of bait. I think they were on the run and passing thru. Silver's were full of bait. Funny huh? Go luck to the rest of you fisherman out there. I hope it's a great year for everybody.

Just got back from Ucluelet BC and fished South Bank and Southwest Corner. This is my wife's biggest fish and I managed to loose her bigger fish. This one was 46lb. Lots of fish out on the banks. Had five over 20lbs.

hiroshi amazing fish and congrats! you said you fished south bank for it but I see an island in the back ground. Were is south bank? 7 mile, 14 mile or 21???

Thanks and congrats again.

Guy's call it all kinds of different names but, on the map, it is called Ampherite Bank. The north end is called "Lighthouse Bank" and the south end is called "SouthBank". That's the Broken Islands you see in the back ground. At the south end of SouthBank, there's a place that looks like an upside down Rabbit. We caught it just above it. 125ft. Trolling at 25knots. Forgot to show my fish 30lb and my wife's other fish. My daughter is showing the set up we use. http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/5418/ucluelet2009teresa.jpg

Hiroshi,
Nice fish and thanks for sharing the info.
From your pictures and the "upside down rabbit" is this where you are talking about?

Thanks,

Trolling 25knots with a flasher and hootchie? Must have been cool to see a 46 pound srping hit a hootchie bucktailing the surface:D.We have all our luck trolling for springs between 2-2.5 mph.

July 18 – 20... ( Thanks Hiroshi, My report is so meaningless next to yours ,lol )
Fishing , Good numbers Inside the Sound , Medium size , Great Outside , SLABS , Overall trip , awesome , get out there , have some fun..
Nice to see some bigger fish coming in , that 46 lber outta Uki , Nice Slab Hiroshi, biggest Iv’e heard of this year , for sure..good on ya , almost as big as you , lol …..
Day 1 , 6:00 am , stuck our nose out to 6 mile , set the first side down , next, port side , lowered the ball down , went to raise it a foot or two , nadda , HEAVY Fog , All Weekend , I can’t believe the guy’s out there with no radar , 16 - 20 – 22 footers on step , getting worse every year , my radar suggested we pull up and get back for repairs ,
Scotty packed er in , unreal , ( faulty switch , $ 45 ) Scotty's have been a rock for us over the years , trolled around in the fog and wind for an hour , couple small springs , released , Not a fun morning…
Day 2 , Major Fog bank at the Surf again , a little wind as well , we went North , Clear Sky’s , no wind , great day , Diplock first , 2 fast Springs 12 + 18 lb , 1 Coho around 6-7 lb.Pulled up , over to Swale , again , 6 quick coho between 6-8 lbs.
Last , out to Effingham , Cree , one more Springer around 10lbs , Several wild’s released , White , White , White ,,,, Bait and spoons were quiet 4 us , all on hootchies , coho to 40 feet , Springs down to 140 feet , odd this time of year , back at the dock by 11 am , note , Very few dogfish , we did pull some bait around , only 2 dogs all weekend.
Day 3 was basically a repeat of day 2 , a nice Spring caught at Useless Inlet as well, (next to Pill), back at the dock by 10 am. We stayed in shore , nothing huge , great numbers , 4 of us on the boat , HOT sun ,COLD Pops , , did not want to deal with the fog offshore. However , the boy’s that did , kicked some arss , our docks had some serious slabs coming in , Fin Attic( Gorgeous boat buddy ) , Moon Snail ( Fat B_tch Dan , I believe his name was , great guy , what a character ) these guy’s were stacked , Springs up to 35lbs on a couple , mostly Whites though , still , pretty awesome to see . Hali were also seeing more and more of . All and all , came back with our possession of Coho , and a few shy of our springs. ALOT of Coho this year , Great to see , did not expect this.
. Most boats offshore limited out quite easily by the sounds of it , fog was kinda strange for this time of year , I thought ! , Rats nose mostly for the Nook boy’s , a few around the 13 – 14 mile as well , South bank out of Uki was also on fire , really on fire !! , Hali was still a little slow out that way, Dan said { Moon Snail Charters ).
Best bets on the inside , Diplock , Swale , Cree , a few around Beale as well .Kirby has slowed , we made a few passes , nadda., same with Pill…

Had to come back early , my real job was a callin , Back there on the 6th to the 9th
Cheers , ,,,FD ,,,;) ( details , email me kosi99@hotmail.com )
Have a great trip FjordShark – Hans……
Sarkan , Thanks , should have said hey , next time ...FD

Sorry guys, I meant 2.5kts. 25kts is kinda fast. BusinessTime in your photo, see Amphitrite Bank and see and number 6 toward the bottom. You'll see the upside down rabbit. We fished just above it. If I remember right, it's about 160ft deep and Amy caught her king at 126ft dept on the downrigger. With only a 12lbs ball and doing 2.5kts, I guess the gear was probably actually down around 100ft. These were caught on cloudy and foggy mornings. Tide change has been the ticket for me. Early morning is fine but, the days get too long for this old man.

Dunno how you get a "rabbit" out of that one?? Local name for that spot is "Outside South". Was there yesterday to drop the gear. Nothing for the early shot, in fact nothing until well up to the West. Ah, but once there they right kicked into gear! A tad slower than it has been, but we did manage to hook a little better than 20 springs over 25 pounds! Sweet! Even better it was one of my Buddy's Young Guns first time on the pond. Not only his first salmon (which he played like a Pro - Cool at 13 years!) he also played the majority of the larger ones we kept (6 out of 8) Don't get a much better day guiding!!

Cheers,
Nog

Yep.

She's on boys.

If you don't find them in one spot, just move. Be ready to spend lots of bucks on gas if you want your fish. One bank to the next from day to day but always somewhere and lots of good ones. Couple over 30 today and almost always one tyee per trip now.

Plugs ahoy!

Gimee the gaff!!!

Surprising that you can't see it when you fish there all the time.
How about now?;) My apologies to copyright holders and bunny artists.

thats funny I thought the bunny was where the compass rose is its a running bunny
Well, I don't have a clue as to who, calls what, "the rabbit" or, "the bunny", I am only trying to help show where a guy caught his fish, using what he called it? Me, I just call it "Southbank"! :D And have quite a few hours there my self... as I usually stop there on both my run up and down! I have pulled quite a few fish out of that entire area, but mostly where I have it marked as "Southbank"! [:I]

But, I do kind of like the name "Rabbit", and it kind of does look like an upside down rabbit, maybe someone should claim the name, before someone else starts posting as his, based on his experiences? :D:D

Oh... forgot! Glad to see some people can draw, better than they can fish!!! In either case, hope you don't have to make a living at either! [}:)][}:)]

The computer drew that; I fish quite well at times thanks in part to what you and many others have shared over the years; I flunked Shakespeare twice in university and now I teach it for a living. Don't tell my principal! When are you going to Pt. Renfrew?
After Nootka, I'll be fishing out of Ucluelet twice. Hope I can direct the skipper to Hiroshi's Hare.
