No place I would rather be (FISH ON)

We were ther last weekend and did pretty well on springs at Swale and Austin. We caught all our fish between 65-85 feet with 75 feet being by far the best. The low tide change was the best time. Lots and lots of bait around!!

Fished out of Poet Nook July 1–3, 2009. Had a great time fishing and the campground was superb. All the folks we talked to were very helpful and had great attitudes. Did get a couple of the “Should have been here a couple of weeks ago” but that’s expected and I know they meant well. Weather was perfect for the time we were there. No wind or rain in sight. Saw tons of bait (needlefish) all over the sound. Needles to say that any gear that works when needlefish are around is a sure bet. Our group was targeting springs but did keep some legal Coho that were bleeders. One buddy managed a 30# halibut within 5 minutes of lines down the first day. Nice by catch. We mostly fished Whittlestone, outside Bamfield Harbour, the Wall and Edward King. Best depth for me was at the 50 foot with purple haze flasher and a 3 ½" silver prism coyote spoon on a 6’ leader. Best times were early morning, and just before dark for springs. Seemed that you could hit a Coho anytime of the day. When I started hitting Coho I traded it for a much bigger spoon and had less hits. All springs were less than 20# but did see one or two 25’s at the cleaning station. This was only my second trip out there but was very impressed by all the places you can fish. You lucky dogs over there could spend the rest of your lives exploring places to catch fish. The road in was in good shape but the dust from the lack of rain was brutal, all 60 Km. GLG

Haven't heard from OSAMA or MILLSY on the tread in a while.OSAMA are you still staying nextdoor on the bottem? Coming over on 11th staying on the bottom next door to Mills.Dan!

Fished Pill yesterday from 9:00 to 1:00...lots of fish around, but small in size. We left with 4 springs and a coho. Largest 15 lbs.
Chovies behind green flasher worked well until we ran out of chovies.

Good to hear there are lots of fish around. I'm coming over next weekend and probably camping in Uclulet. Gotta get some blood on the new boat. How has it been offshore? or has the wind been to high to get out there?

Just heard from my Dad who's been up there fishing the Pill Point area for the past couple weeks. Lots of small ones & shakers, largest was 18Lbs.
Today he said he had 5 large Dogfish on for the first time. I hope a large school hasn't moved in. I hear it's El Nino year again - happened last time we had it.

Plenty of fish around Pill yesterday. Our largest was 39 pounds. Lost 4 others in the low 20's. Plenty of coho shallow as well. Offshore has been hot. Our guys left with limits of Chinook, coho and hali's. Weather has been flat calm. In fact the weather off shore was way better than in Bamfield which was rainy and blowing.

We're heading out next week also to Ucluelet. Going to run from Everett Washington. Staying at Island West Resort. 30ft Norstar, (Blue and white w/bridge) Anyone in the area, please come over and introduce yourselfs. We can exchange war stories.

Hirosi, I will be there on July 14 for a few days. I will be in a 24' Bayliner white in color at Island West. I will look you up or you can contact me. JSH

We'll be in the area from the 18th to the 20th (not sure where we are staying yet but likely camping). White campion explorer 542 with a 150 etec on the back. I'll keep my eyes open for you guys.

I'm alive!!

Having major computer issues though and fishing almost daily so the online world hasn't been a part of the routine lately...

Anyhow, some better fish seem to be moving inshore, and lots of 20+ showing up on the bank for the morning tide. Halis getting better daily out there and the lings are up now too. Coho so thick you can't get your gear throught them at times.

Couple days off in a row now which is a rarity at this time of the year so I'll get to do some fun fishing!

Gimee the gaff!!!
