I'm sure that the travel ban will be lifted before the good fishing month, June through August. And I'm sure that some people will just ignore the travel ban .... everyone that wants a vaccine shot should have it by June..... than it will be a free for all
We should never be ashamed or hide the fact we go out to hunt and gather for our families. Bending and caving into the demands and standards of those apposed is not an option. If we hide in the shadows no one will know when we are gone.
It would be great to be able to catch your limit....... I have just never done that. I have tried. Even when the limit was 30 fish a year.
Sorry, the emotional narrative around "hunting and gathering to feed our families" was stale decades ago. The public sentiment does not support it and they are the majority that decides the fate of hunters and fishermen in our democracy. I enjoy fishing as much as the next fishermen but I avoid beating my chest and trumpeting how proud I am of killing fish. The attention may be great for some egos but attracts lots of negative public attention, as well.
I agree it’s not a “need” any longer to hunt and gather to feed the family it’s a choice, a wise one but still a choice. I view it as a choice to supply my family with as much natural organic heathy food as I possibly can. I will attempt to do that as long as I possibly can. We grow a garden, we raise animals to consume, we hunt as many species as allowed by law, we catch as many different species of fish as possible and take pride in consuming that product. And yes I do take pride in the fact my family doesn’t have to live off of store bought chemical and steroid infested food every day. As the population gets more urbanized all the time we are moving away from this connection with the land. I won’t apologize for not joining them, I won’t apologize for showing the world there are still a good many of us that do still have this connection to the land. It’s not about pounding my chest it’s about not bowing down to society, it’s about holding true to my values. Because I have that right to hold onto my values as much as they do to theirs. I think if more people would do this it would show it’s still a part of our culture and society in stead of a dying thing. I mean it may be a dying thing in your circle but its not in mine. We are proud hunters and gathers. Today it’s fishing and hunting tomorrow it’s eating meat we will be shamed into not doing, that has even started. When will it end, when will the cancel cultures appetite be filled and they stop. If you haven’t caught on yet it never will be.
I’ve met more non fishers disturbed by the fact that we harass fish only to let them go again for fun than I have people offended that we act on the deepest of primal urges to provide food for our families. That’s just my experiences though.

The public need to be reminded who were the original conservationists. They also should be aware that the more eyes (ours) in the woods or on the water the less poaching. It is not about ego. It really is better for the economy/environment when a sporty pays for a pound of salmon than when they buy it in the store.
