Absolutely right, it takes two willing parties to negotiate.
If one side is stuck to their position, ie. no harvesting of common property animals, then never give an inch.
Otherwise. they will take it as a sign of weakness and that their positional strategy is working.

One of the best parts about being on the island, is having access to so many different fisheries. Last year started off with fishing winter springs in Sooke, prawning in Desolation Sound in March, up to Winter Harbour in early July, a family trip to Browns Bay in August, Bamfield in late August, back to Sooke & Port Renfrew in September, and then a couple days fishing Coho in Oct. Previous years would have included Nanaimo in April/May, Black Creek in July, then fishing Chums in Browns Bay in late Oct. I will always travel the island to fish. Put a bullet in me should I be reduced to fishing Sooke exclusively.

And may I ask what all of the traveling during the year will cost you ??? Some of us do not own boats. and can only fish from shore....Some of us can't travel. No winter springs from shore, rarely any pinks, no crab and no prawns...... the odd ling cod and MAYBE a spring in the month of August ........ that's about it for our year.... Not even worth the price of a licence

Well what do you expect when I can only fish in August to take a salmon home...... Haven't even caught one in 2 years. I would dearly love to own a boat but health reasons have stopped that idea dead in their tracks. While those with boats can migrate to wherever the openings are.
At least your able to move about and get fish.

Not worth the price of a license? An annual license is under $30!!!! That is a 5 gallon jug of gas or a meal for 2 at White Spot. Part of that cost goes to salmon projects. There is pier crabbing, shrimping, gorge bridge herring fishing, beach oysters, clams etc etc. Haven't mentioned the enjoyment of time spent outside reminding yourself how lucky you are to live in this part of the world.

What does it cost, lots. But fishing is my recreation. It’s my family time too. If I was concerned about the cost per fish, I would book a charter. As a dedicated shore fisherman with only 1 month to fish, it sounds like it may be in your best interest to seek out an alternative way to get fish. I’d be looking at plan B & C if I were you. Not gonna get a lot sympathy here complaining about having to buy a license.

My good man:
not sure i get your point- regardless of where you live or what the restrictions are, you are extremely limited if you don’t have a boat. additionally, you have to pay to play. we have the cheapest license in the world which allows us access to the most diverse and valuable seafood there is. i just ponied up for my entire family of four and i have no ide if i’ll even be able to salmon fish in my salmon capital.
