I had about 12 rods in the back of the truck last night awaiting the order. It hasn't come yet. This morning our friends in the planned place of refuge in Lake Country had to evacuate their home.
They went to our plan B house in Armstrong, So in went the tent, air mattress and sleeping bags and out went the rods in case we need to sleep in the yard. Lifetime collection of spoons is still in for if we have to go. I got a trip coming up. Hope the boat makes it.
Wind is calming, but too dark for helicopters now.

Been hearing that shuswap/scotch creek /celista are all on fire and only evacuation by water now. Scary stuff. Glad you made it out OK.

The whole situation is horrendous but what are you talking about?
How about homeowners take responsibility and prepare rural properties in any fire sensitive areas by eliminating fuel, having non flammable roofs and siding? Sprinklers only do limited protection if it's constant at a high rate. How about local governments do control burns in late fall/early winter? why not institute lengthy distance fire breaks around all municipal land zones? Input any comments good or bad and it's all hindsight at this point but preparation in the future is what's important.
I worked on the 2003 Kelowna fire and most everything I've heard now was said then yet here we are. Hope everyone stays safe and only property is lost and not lives.
The situation in Kelowna is scary and sad for so many people that have lost so much. Now is not the time to throw around discussions about what should or could be done. This has been one dry and awful fire season with what happened in Lahaina and is now happening all over western Canada, and is a reminder that no matter how well we think we are prepared, Mother Nature is not easy to tame. Let's just focus on our neighbours that are being devastated by these fires and help out in anyway we can.

More structures were lost last night, but not sure how many. A lot of my neighbors have left but I’m not going until I’m issued a notice to leave. Wind is nil at the moment and the smoke is heavy so it’s hard to see much of anything.

Well we got some good news from our neighbor who’s an rcmp she let us know the firefighters saved our sub division it burned the houses up on the hill side above us but they water bombed our whole area as a massive guard and it worked! So things might just be looking up for us in this rough time, we’re currently held up with family in town.

I am aware of three friends' homes that were saved by firefighters and helicopters while others nearby burned. One other with a beautiful Westside lakefront home was not so fortunate.
At this point, due to the low visibility from smoke, a person needs a first responder friend to really find out what burned and what didn't.

Yeah it’s hard to get exact info at this time as the smoke is still socked in so badly and hard to make exact estimates of lost homes
