Vancouver Saltchuck?

I'll be heading there this Saturday. Anyone know if T-10 is better with low or high tide?

This morning seemed to produce on the incoming tide, around 10:30am.
I didn't have any luck but judging by the previous post, I was to deep.
I did manage to pick up a coho off west Van on the way home though.
It was a great day on the water, sunny and calm, unlike Sunday when the waves were coming off my bow and going over the roof!

I have a green light for fathers' day! [8D]

How close to T-10 are we talking about?

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

Coal Ports to Sandheads to T10. Coal Ports to Sandheads have been on fire the last few days with size ranging from Jacks to 40lbs.... a couple of boats managing to stay on them finding double digits. One boat had a high thirties ripped off by a 1300 lb Sea Lion right behind the boat today. Crazy..but it's hard to believe it's Vancouver this year....fishing has really picked up over the last week and a half off the Fraser Mouth.

Anchovies from 50 to 100 are taking the Lions share.

Mornings are better to the south...

So, what do you think? Fraser fish?
Just couldn't resist! :D

Yes Chuckie... we're now catching trademark RED Fraser "peahead" Chinooks--and these are mature....unlike the other Springs which were/are still being bonked through Georgia Strait over the last 2 months. These are distinctly different than fish being caught on the ECVI over the last 2 months. These are unmistakably mature and it's evident from just looking at them.

;)

What's the crabbing like out by T-10? I've never dropped a trap out that way. I'm always dropped in English Bay.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to try a new area but would also like to avoid problems too.

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

I haven't dropped a trap out there 'cause of all the commercial traps in the area.
I was out today and only managed a few undersized. The last one was followed closely by an orca! I wish I had my video camera with me today. I did manage a poor picture with my camera though.
I picked up another coho on the way home, along the West Van shore. With all the boats out there tonight you would have thought it was August!

Great image! It looks quite close.

Sounds like the coho fishing is better than it's been in years off West Van. Were you using spoons or hoochies?

It surfaced about 30ft behind my boat. I'm not sure if I was shocked, amazed or maybe just a little nervous for a few seconds.
I've been catching coho with the flamin' hans spoon and anchovies on 6ft leaders in 30ft of water, downrigger at 15ft.

We picked up around 3 after seeing the pod and half a dozen whale tour boats move in.

A couple of shakers and a long line release of a high teener was what we managed before the killers moved in.

Here's a pic of a calf having some fun.

Interesting day today, crappy water so we followed everyone else to the Cap area. Not a sniff there but got soaked during downpour. Not catching fish gave us the chance to listen to the radio and looks like they were slaying them over at French creek and Silva Bay areas.
Water started to calm and we took off over to T-10 along with others. I have no idea what gives these Scottish commercial crabbers the right to block my route around the can. Then these Scotts blast by me 10 feet away and nearly swamp me. The name on the boat was "My Buddy" They drive boats the same as cars. No fish for me today, first skunk of the year after 6 times out. :(

Two days ago you couldn't keep the coho off your line, today all I got was one undersized spring.
Ya just never know!
I was only out from about 1:30 til 5pm.

Probably saw you out there Dan. We were in my father inlaw's yellow fibreform. Got one coho and lost one. One on a glow white hootchie and the other on an anchovie right at the pink apartment. Both hits came between 1:45 and 2:15. Otherwise, not a nibble. Didn't set the crab traps on this trip though. Which boat were you?

What sort of leader length are you guys using with hootchies when fishing for coho?

As I recall something closer to 2 feet used to work off West Van.

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

Was out in front of the Pink Apts. this afternoon. Lost three nice coho at the boat due to operator incompetence before I boxed the last two... My lines were so short/shallow that there was no time to clear the other rods and riggers before the fish were at the boat! All were at 25' in 50 - 80' on white hoochies and kitchen sink Coyote. Time didn't seem to matter, they were biting all through the flood.

Waterspout Watch in lower Georgia Strait just issued - be careful this evening out there!
