Vancouver area fishing?

There should be a run at the T10 down to the South Arm starting anytime. These are bigger fish and are mostly white's. The whales were at the South Arm and crab pot bay yesterday so they could be chasing springs. If the water is good it's an easy run to the T10 but watch the seas as a SE or NW can make it ugly quickly.

The Cap is the old standby but that run really doesn't start until the end of Sept.

The QA and even off of the Iona jetty might be worthwhile as the larger white's tend to travel to the South Arm and not the North Arm like the run we have been fishing for the past 2 weeks.

Anyway I guess it's time to run around and spend fuel ....

good luck.

We fished QA to Bell Buoy and beyond and hooked one strange fish at 80 feet? It hit but did not take off the downrigger, when we set the hook it just took off. Never stopped. Down to the last few wraps on the reel and horsed it in a lost it. Don't know what it was, I think more than a big fish. Maby a seal took our fish, or a big skate? Don't know. If it was a salmon, it was well over 50 pounds.

Don't agree Hog. Rule 18 as stated applies to any fishing vessels. Please show me where </u> the Collision Regulations state otherwise. Rule 18 does not exclude rec. fishing vessels.

Moreover, the book used for the Canadian Power Squadron course makes reference to the Collision Regulations and Rule 18 when it states "both power and sailboats must keep well clear of boats engaged in fishing. Remember to stay well away, if passing behind these boats. This is the location of most of their gear." Again, as you can see, rec. fishing vesells are not excluded.

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

Fishing vessels are COMMERCIAL Fishing vessels not recreational boats engaged in recreation fishing. It is very clear in the Col Regs. During my 12 weeks of sea school I asked this question a few times as I to thought it pertained to all fishing vessels. Make sure you understand the rule as you may be the give way vessel.

Looks like Friday might not be too windy. I've been checking the test net fishery and there have been good numbers of springs going up river. I will fish the Q.A. and head towards the mouth.

Hey Brisco, If you get a chance, please post a report on Friday pm. I'm heading to the coast to get my son moved into university. If you catch something, I'll bring my boat, no pressure. Thanks.

Brisco, let me know how it looks, may see you out on the water this weekend

How was it out at the QA Saturday? - any reports? thinking of giving it a try Sunday. What are the seas like with the Strong Wind Warning around the QA? ( i'm in an 18fter )

thx

I don't think it matters if you are in an 18 footer or a 30 footer. Its not fun fishing in bumpy water.Looks like Monday might be o.k. I will try and catch the afternoon low.

Looks like light winds for Monday! Time to fuel up and get those chovies brined. Where are we going? :D

We went for a dog walk at Iona beach this morning and saw a few boats in the banana between the north arm and the **** pipe. Not too many boats out there but the water looked good. Tomorrow should be good with a 7AM tide change. Giving it a try, don't know where.

A buddy just called me from the B.B. Lots of boats and about 5 fish taken. I looked at my log from last year and we were into a couple at T-10. I also looked at the test net site for yesterday and its quite high, over 50 fish. Smooth water T-10 choppy = B.B.

Just got back in. nada at the QA. counted 42 boats around the BB, saw 3 fish around 9-10...so much for the slack bite.... wind started to pick up a bit at 11 or so. tomorrow is another day.

Yeah we were one of those 42 others you saw out there today. We had a few hits, lost one nice one, nothing to the boat. Like you said tomorrow's another day.

Listening to the radio and from what I saw of a couple boats that passed us heading south there were more fish around t10.

For what's it's worth last night was supposed to have been pretty good around the Cap.

I was listening to the radio when those guys left there (T10). There were two charter boats down there, Mickey Finn from Sewell's and M & M Charters. There were two boats down there all morning. They reported 1 strke and 1 fish each. Neither fish was large. T10 got rough later in the morning.

Fished the bell from about 7AM. Bonked a 16# FOOTBALL about 8:30, then about 15 minutes later, after a couple of spirited surface runs, my buddy lost it's (slightly) bigger brother to a (ahem) 'knuckle / reel handle disagreement'. Ah well, we've all been there [:I].

About 10 AM, when it started to get stupid busy, we headed down to the T10. Boy, what a difference a couple of miles can make! It was snotty. Saw Mickey Fin bouncing around (thats what Bertrams were made for!) but decided discretion was the better part of valour and headed back. Upon return to the bell, we tried to stay away from the frenzy, but the wind picked up and we were gone by noon.

Prawn traps were full . Ate too many last night... Will smoke the spring.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.
