Does that mean its over already wow whats the deal I was all excited ran out and bought chovies for tommorrow and now nothing ,

Myself and BigJay from the forum will be out tomorrow (weds) afternoon for the afternoon tide change.

Let's hope the whales were only "snacking"!! ;)

Isn't it possible the springs have gone up the Fraser? Or do they hang around to fatten up first.

Out at the Bellboy today from noon until 5, nothing one grilse. There seemed to be lots of feed on the sounder never seen action from any other boats

Kipper

We had one boat out in the morning fishing from the Bell to T10 with a shot a one decent fish. There was a bite about 1130 am with 2 or 3 nice fish taken at the Bell but not a great bite. There was a report from the Vancouver Whale watch boat that the whales were spotted off of Bowen Tuesday night so maybe they came in for seconds and took care of what remaining Springs were around. We had a boat out yesterday PM and managed one about 15 pounds at the Cap. Maybe they were chased into the harbour?

Could have been a flash in the pan but based on the past 3 years the 15th of the month did see some nice runs come into the Bell area so there is still hope !

Good luck

Big Hog,

Thanks so much for taking the time to give us amateurs reports. If it wasn't for that darn "working thing" I would be out myself. The sports guys need to stick together.

Hang in there guys .... they are coming. There was about 6 or 8 nice fish taken today (mostly on guide boats) at the Bell area. This is the best day since Sunday so maybe the fish are re bounding now.

Have all boats out Thursday, Friday and Saturday so wil know more mid weekend and will post results (good or bad !)

thanks

Its amazing how things have changed I remember fishing the cap at htis time of year in the early 90s and you would see hundreds of coho jump all day, I used to fish with my dad in the eighties He wasnt one of these guys that worked the bait rally it was green hotchie one side and tom mack the other 120 feet,we alway got 3or 4 fish, I go out three weeks ago get four fish one day and then skunked two trips in a row this is the middle of august we should be getting a few fish every time out ,it really makes me feel bad for the guides

I'll be heading out tomorrow, (friday) any suggestions on where to try.
Launching from Kit's point so I guess I'll try the bell first.

How much for a charter to this area? I think I need some help and to check out all the "secrets" the guide boats seem to use to catch all these fish.

I guess now that your word is out we'll have tons of boats fishing that area. Wonder if I have a chance at multiple fish?

Had a nice 16lb red spring at 7pm off the first mile marker tonight..UV plaide flasher and splatterback hootchie at 35ft

Was hoping to get out tomorrow morning (saturday) but the father inlaw's truck is in the shop. Anybody got room for one? More than happy to share gas costs, etc.

Was out for the am bite today(saturday).Lost one around 25lbs around the downrigger cable and another spat the hook I didnt see, and finally boxed our third which was around 22lbs. 35 feet on an anchovy..[8D]

GOOD WEEKEND OF FISHING

We had 3 boats out most of Friday thur Sunday with mixed results. Everyone played fish but Saturday being choppy may have played a role in non hookups for us. The PM trips seemed to do much better than AM but we did manage a fish or 3 per boat back to the docks. Sunday faired well as the water was great until mid morning when it roughed up to about 2 feet. The HighFive hit 6 and boxed 3 with the largest being 29 pounds Sunday. Rain is coming so we will see what happens the next 2 or 3 days.

Lots of boats Saturday and Sunday and a few lost in rigger cables so we are looking forward to week day fishing again. Email me if you want more info on this local fishery.

Finally got out saturday after being off the water for a month. Did find it difficult to put out the rods as i was fishing by myself and getting bouced around. Did loose one on a purple haze hootchie at 65 feet. Talked to a couple of younger kids out in a whaler and watched them nail 2 nice low teens high 20's within 10 minutes on green with red flashers. White was also working well and saw many hook ups on it.

Question------- who was the idiot at the RVYC that planned a race course right in the middle of a fishing hot spot that is always fished. What a dumb butt. We should all go lower our gear in the middle of the the club so that they need to go around us when they need to leave

did i call him a dumb butt.[:o)][:o)]

flytyer.....not defending the course set up but not everyone knows that the Bell Buoy is a common fishing spot. Marks for races are generally put out fairly early in the day and depending on the wind it is quite common for the races to be out and back towards the Bell Buoy a couple of times during the course. I just say this as I am a sailor and have raced out in English Bay for a bunch of years; if it is a concern of your be forewarned that there is a pretty big regatta this coming Saturday out of RVYC and again; the wind may play a factor in course set up.

Just as you are mad at "sailors"....the "sailors" may be upset with "salmon and fishermen" because the fish are making the "fishermen" troll through their race course. ;)

Believe me....I may be racing this Saturday but I will shed some "light" to the race commitee when putting out the course. Frankly I'd rather be fishing but have been crewing a boat that comes up from Seattle for about the last 7 years now.

I don't know what was going on but I was trying to stay clear of the sail boats but all they were interested in was getting the best speed, didn't matter how close they came to boats trolling. I know for a fact they could have steered a little more clear of some boat. I mean really they are doing what 15 knots and we are doing 2 with cables in the water. I had one pass 20 feet ( not an exaggeration )right behind me going fast. Friend of mine had a fish on and a sail boat passes so close behind him the keel hooked the 3 rods he still had on the riggers plus the line with the fish, the keel spooled all of his rods and broke everything off....everything ??????
You think this sailor could have steered a little more clear for safety at least.
I can understand they can set a course where they want, but some of the guys at the wheel were way out of line with their disregard for safety.

Sounds like the fleet should follow High Five, John B and Lanikai around....200 feet astern and 200 feet on a parallel course! Heard another charter boat out there was following High Five around as they have a nose for fish.

;)

I don't see how cutting off a few hundred dollars worth of fishing gear is any worse then hitting you. All boats must do everything to avoid a collision, your manouverability is compromised.

Besides, as I hear someone had found, a bucket of two pound weights kept close at hand and used liberally will get the attention of even the most blind, pointy-goateed, captains hat wearing, British Accented, ignorant skipper.

What goes around comes around.
