Ucluelet fishing - when weather is not great

Our group normally uses Bamfield as a home base when fishing within the Barkley Sound. This summer our group is going use Ucluelet as our home base.

Running over to Effingham, Gilbralter, Kirby, etc… from Ucluelet does not sound like fun when it is raining and wind is wailing.

Are there any recommended fishing spots close to the inlet/marina, if the weather is not great? For example, fishing “the wall” near Bamfield usually is fishable when the weather is not great. Any areas close to Ucluelet that are somewhat protected by the typical winds?

Fish right out in front of Amphitrite Lighhouse. You can work your way down towards Portland Point or just fish near the Lighthouse. I got enough springs there a few years ago to be happy. Never had to burn a pile of gas going out to LaPerouse, and I had the option of ducking back into the inlet if REALLY started howling.

Also, Lighthouse Bank is in fairly close. You get to fish the highway without stepping off the sidewalk, though if it really starts blowing, not far to go is usually too far to go

Thanks for the information.

I had heard that fishing near Ucluelet was not a solid option, compared to Bamfield, when the weather was not great.

Later in the year you'll see local guides concentrating on the areas as mentioned and spending less time on the outer banks if they want bigger fish-I got smoked by something huge last year right in front of the harbour.
