The OFFISHAL Vancouver 2011 Reports Thread

I think the closest is probably vanier park, next would be mcdonald beach at the airport, if its a small boat you could launch at ambleside in west van too, just watch the tides low tide does leave you a little high and dry not much for parking there though and its real close to the cap mouth, I havent been out since monday now so I cant tell you about the pinks but I would hazard a guess that theres still some around the north and south arms

The Tugs produce some pretty huge waves as well. I would say 16 foot would be the smallest with at least 15 HP.

I would have to agree but I did fish with my sir-vivor I for 20 years on the straight of Georgia and Barkley inlet and even Bamfield and Port Renfrew, here is a picture of it , a great old gal but happy to move up to my present boat ........

In fact the pic is the boat at china creek dock (Barkley Inlet , Port Alberni) was a 15.5' Sears Special (appr 1965) with a merc 40HP and a 5HP Kicker, the free board on the gunnel was about 6-8 inches .... WHAT WAS I THINKING ABOUT LOL , was a great boat

Went out yesterday afternoon, very windy on the south side. So I worked the north shore for a while, until the wind let up a bit. No love there, so I headed over to try the mile markers. Pretty dead until 7pm, when a bit of a bite started up towards the bell buoy. Had 4 on, and landed 2 nice size socs. It's definitely getting tougher to find the Socs, but they're still around. Pink or red minis got the fish yesterday at a faster troll of about 2.5 mph with longer leaders.

Sockeye

Fished all week in harbour with a buddy, limited out on socs Mon.- Thurs. Fri. was slower , only 2 socs but a 27lb. red and a 24 white took pink hootchies at 60' , 80'. Ya Baby !!!

still there

Rods in at 6:30.
Limited by 9:30.

Still there...

Bell bouy

Out at the crack 9 with a couple novice budds. Kept 1 11 lb soc. Lost about 6. Lost a 15 cannon ball too. Never mind the gas, the cannon bals worth more then the fish. ;)

Was at the mile markers today and caught the tail end of what was a pretty good bite, went 2 for six on sockeye with a friend who is new to fishing , I landed 2 he lost 4 . Was mainly looking for a good spring so moved over to the cap around 1:30 and had a good fish on in the the first pass off the marker. Ended up losing the fish as I had my line looped around the last eye on the rod , my stupid mistake. Trolled for a few more hours ,with fish being taken on other boats, mostly coho which I saw many jumpers. Was going to call it day when I saw one of the guide boats bang off a double and decided to hit another pass, bang a double of springs. Landed an 18 which took awhile to get in , what a gong show with my friend new to fishing trying to control the boat in the current with the boats at the cap and pull up all the other gear. Just as he nets it the one last rod down is just getting slammed , by this time we have drifted in towards the totem pole and the crab trap and still have riggers half down, line and flashers all over the place and this fish is just doing circles around the boat, pretty funny if you were there me running around my non walk around and my friend thinking he should follow not once but twice. Amazingly we got it in at 15lbs. Fun times ,all hits were between 70 and 60 with herring and anchovy with green glo set ups. Stoked to get some good action at the cap, don t have much time left to fish this season and I feel the cap is like the playoffs.

Way to go Dave. I pulled my lines just as you disappeared behind the freighter (on Friday , so not sure you got your springs Friday or Saturday? ) . I headed off to Gibsons where I am still now (my dad's Celebration of Life here yesterday)
Just fished 2.5 hours Friday stating at 10:30 . Wanted to bring a fresh soc up to Gibson's for my mother. It was slow for the first hour and a half with 3 losses and a couple rod bounces but then all H*ll broke loose with a double and two triples and a couple of singles in the last hour. Had my limit of soc and reased a couple. Only one pink released. Thats great news about the cap area and springs! Time for me to target springs now. .....Can this summer get any better ????!!! - BTW I will post a photo of that big lamprey when I get home ....it was stuck on to one of the socs.

Scalp,
the bell is the red Bell bouy marker a wee bit northwest off the tip of point grey approx 1 mile out,

No sox

Put in the same hours today.
NO SOX
Didn't even see one caught.
Saw 2 Springs caught on Sockeye gear - unfortunately not on my boat.

Maybe it was the full moon...

I think J-Global and I were fishing in the same track....well same results anyway.
heard of a few springs in the 15-25lb

Great afternoon out there today.
Trolled west Van shore..... solo so didnt want to fish the Cap.
Cruised across the harbour and caught and released a scrappy 12 pounder (Guesstimate)
1/2 mile n/e of Bell Buoy 50 ft green ace high fly

fished the south side of active pass today, hooked a small feeder spring and a couple of real small salmon (10" long) i can't remember what their called. other than that, caught two pinks just off point roberts on sat morning.

was out for 3 hours this afternoon and didnt get a thing. couldnt find a school of any thing. had 2 nice looking women aboard so it wasnt a total waste . little choppy. of the 4 boats i know that were out today, including j-global, 1 fish was hooked. a 10lb white by the last marker on chovie at 6 30 tonight

Tough day today. Lost one sock at the boat and had a few bites that never stuck. Saw one spring landed and a couple fish landed by other boats. Pretty slow. Tried the cap mouth for a couple hours in the morning searching for a spring but no luck there either. Nice day on the water though.

Ok I haven't been fishing since Friday when it was pretty decent for Socs.....I promised a photo of a lamprey that came aboard stuck on one of my socs that day . He was about 8" long.
Also talked to Rob today ( creel guy) when I got back to my marina from a weekend trip to Gibsons . There was a derby weigh in at my marina and 17 springs were weighed in from Cap all through the harbour and down to t10 areas. Not sure how many boats that represented but some guys had none , some guys had two or three. Lots of decent ones in twenties but biggest was only 24.5 lbs apparently. He said all or very high percentage were whites
