The OFFISHAL Vancouver 2011 Reports Thread

Red bouy big bell on top for signalling in the fog always clanging in the waves just slightly north west of pt grey aka Q62

And also I wasn't sitting on the buoy fishing I was fishing from that marker and north and east then back again changing direction based upon the tide currents.

C'mon I'm pretty sure that was you tied up to the bell buoy jigging with a pink buzz bomb with a monster treble.

:p;):D:)

Looking at the iphone navionics its pretty close but I still say area 29-3

Hey trendsetter
Heres how pacific angler calls it. "AREA 28 IS EAST OF A LINE DRAWN BETWEEN THE POINT GREY BELLBUOY AND POINT ATKINSON. AREA 28 REMAINS OPEN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE." so fish northeast of the bell

Well it appears to be in 28-7 based on the map of area 28 provided on DFO's site.

I looked up the actual coordinates of the western boundaries for area 28-7:

49°19.823′N 123°15.880′W [Point Atkinson Light]

To

49°15.936′N 123°15.860′W [Point Grey]

I will be out there today and I'll check where the bell buoy sits with my GPS. If it turns out that it is in fact over the line then I guess me and the 50 other boats out there were keeping sockeye illegally.

OK. So drove right up next to the bell buoy today and marked it's location on my GPS.

49°17.359′N 123°15.960′W = Bell Buoy. So yes it is in 29-3!

Then I drove east to the line where 28-7 starts. It's about 500 feet. So I think we can all say it's pretty safe to fish from the bell buoy east for sox while they are still open:)

Awesome trensetter, thanks for clarifying I thought it(the Bell) was alot farther out.
Tim

Now for an actual fishing report..lol

I fished the bell and east in the pack for an hour today and picked up one sockeye. I got tired of the weeds and the crowd so I moved over to the north arm and dropped my spring gear.

One line at 55 with anchovie and one at 70-90 with a pink hoochie. No action for about 3 hours except for a couple shakers on the bait line. Then about 5pm the hoochie line went off and I landed a nice 15.5lb white spring. Called it a day after that.

Cheers!

had a great afternoon out in the point grey area for sox this aft. my wife and i picked up an easy limit of 8 sox from 2pm-about 3:30pm lost a few but a good high catch rate, didn't see 1 pink. stopped at mosquito cr. to clean my fish at the cleaning station just behind the gas pumps, they wouldn't let me use it, no boats there, last time mosquito creek makes a dime off of me, aholes.
the bell buoy is definitely in 29-3 but not by a lot. probably 30-40 boats out there this aft. about 10 or so were definitely in 29-3, coulda been fishing springs, pinks and ho's though. the boundary is from pt atkinson to the western most point of land at point grey. the bell buoy moves with the tides but was probably within 200-300' this aft. and btw pacific angler is not dfo.

Good report ferret, but to bad about the cleaning station, hell I have one on board you can use if those guys want to be selfish LOL.

Hey , like your name says TRENDSETTER , good to see someone is thinking outside the Area 28 LOL , nice to see it paid off for you and you got a good eating spring ... good on you.

As far as guys over fishing well all I can say is ; We're not laughing with ya but at you , you bone heads

14 ft is OK if calm, 16ft is better. 12ft and under only if water is like glass.

Especially if those cargo freighters are going by full-tilt, The walls of water they produce are like Tsunami waves!

I was out there with a bunch of boats on Wednesday from 1pm-6 and found the schools of sox between the markers but couldn't get them to bite at all. Had lines from 50-75 feet with a crazy amount of flash and pink squirts but not even a bite. Didn't see many boats around catching any either. We were focusing on the area pretty close to the markers. Anyone heading out for sox today? If so, please let me know where you find them! :)

Great advice. It never ceases to amaze me the risks some people take with their lives and those of others ... last Friday night we buzzed by an 8 foot inflatable with two people who were fishing off of the North Arm and then during the Monday gong show off of the Bell Buoy we saw a 12 ft. aluminum with 4 people sprawled in it.

I have a 15ft Hourston and frequently fish the harbour, as well as trips to Howe sound, Bowen and T10. Most important is to be smart and choose your times. If it's blowing hard stay inside or try West Van, which is usually calm.

They were fishing alongside us for a bit when them idiotic 35'+ pleasure cruisers decided to roll through on half plane on the opposite side of me, I tell you if I hadn't of busted down a couple of those monster rollers they were creating it might have been a scarry ride for them, I dont know why they had to go right up the center of everyone and couldnt have skirted the fleet a bit better, I mean I'm sure they must have realized the havoc they created with some of the smaller boats throwing off them huge wakes definately some of the largest I've taken off the side, there was just no way to turn into them.

Thanks for the advice few more q"s were is the closet boat launch avail? And are there lots of pinks put there too?
