The OFFISHAL Vancouver 2011 Reports Thread

Anybody get out today? Are they still nailing sox inside the harbour?

yep , still in Area 28, 65' down hitting the old pink sockeye gear , no problem limiting out today , was nice since I have been away and missed all that easy sock action. LOL

Thanks for the reports; please keep them coming. I'm hoping to make a trip down from the Okanagan for a Sat/Sun am fish if the sox are still there. Is there a better place to launch than McDonald Beach if fishing the harbour? We'll be sleeping in Richmond.

Hi tubber,

I live in Richmond and I use the Mcdonald Beach ramp for fishing in the Harbour, you could go to the ramp at the Coast Guard Station but its a driving nightmare and would only save you 10 min of water travel time so I would recommend from Richmond you use McDonald Beach ramp but make sure to keep a
SHARP EYE OUT FOR LOGS IN THE RIVER and when leaving the arm make sure you don't cut it to close on the starboard side because it is very shallow.

Hey sirvivor, I saw your boat out there today. Nice catch! When did you find most action, in the afternoon?

Hey Trendsetter,

Ya I was late out the gate but the bite came on for me around 3 pm .

I was just going round and round in a circle and catching fish , got so damn dizzy I had to go home LOL

Like they say , if you find the school stay on it and it will produce sooner or later.

O ya I had a rod at 35', 45' and 65' ..... the socks hit the 65' each time and always when I was bow heading east , go figure eh !

Ate two tonight and gave the other 2 away so I need to get out and get some for the canner ...

Thanks sir-vivor. If it doesn't rain some of the fish should stay out of the river I hope. I'll be in my new to me Campbell River style old 17' Boston Whaler.

Lost something huge today off north arm. 58' with a mini-squirt pink hoochie and the rod started pounding like crazy. Grabbed the rod and it screamed out line with 4 or 5 long runs. Almost spooled me so I started to put some pressure on the drag and it went limp. Pulled in the line and found a bent hook. Serves me right for not re-tying the hoochie when I bought it.

I wonder if it weakend the hook when I pinched down the barb? In future I will just re-tie with my own hooks.

Finished the day with 3 nice sox off the bell buoy. One caught on a 3.5" coyote cop car spoon if you'll believe that.

weird..caught a sockeye on my spring gear and had a big spring on my sockeye gear.

Little late on the post, but better late than never. Hit 2 springs between the North arm and T10, last weekend. One was a 28 pound screamer. It hit like a ton of bricks and took 3 LOOONG runs. Other one was a 24. Finished the day with our limit of a mix of sockeye and pink. I'm guessing with sockeye closed more people are gonna be targeting springs and they seem to be out there. Gonna be out this Saturday and might try the cap. Haven't seen a boat over there for a while, but i'm feelin like they should be movin in soon???

dark old female whitey for us yesterday, boy was she angry, 4 long burning runs, swiveling the boat like crazy to keep her alongside near the end as she kept wanting to head straight for the cable/lines on the other side of the boat..

Bell is area 29

29-3 to be exact

Heard about a 42 over the radio on saturday off the hump

Well it appears to be in 28-7 based on the map of area 28 provided on DFO's site.

I looked up the actual coordinates of the western boundaries for area 28-7:

49°19.823′N 123°15.880′W [Point Atkinson Light]

To

49°15.936′N 123°15.860′W [Point Grey]

I will be out there today and I'll check where the bell buoy sits with my GPS. If it turns out that it is in fact over the line then I guess me and the 50 other boats out there were keeping sockeye illegally.

Yeah the 50lb was by one of the bonnie lee boys on the blue hulled trophy called 'liquid odyssey'..

Not trying to be argumentive but the bell lays about a mile give or take outside the line

No worries, I would actually like to know 100% if I'm in the right area or not. When I say bell buoy, I mean the red bell buoy which is basically north-north east about 1 mile from the mouth of the north arm. Are we talking about the same one?

When I plug those coordinates into google maps there is no way the marker I'm talking about can be 1 mile over the boundary.

Either way I will check it's actually location today. And also I wasn't sitting on the buoy fishing I was fishing from that marker and north and east then back again changing direction based upon the tide currents.

Cheers:)
