SFBC Braggarts Fishing Derby

Or you could just walk on and crew the Sculpin with FB. Just sayin' lol.

....hoping you are crewing up on Bad Habits for this one....its either that or face off against it!!

lol

I'm sure there will be lots of rides available on local boats once tickets are printed and out there. Pedder Bay is also going to offer some kind of deal on the rental boats for derby participants for that weekend. It will be a busy weekend if the weather cooperates as the tides are awesome for halibut fishing. So there will be lots of boats out, derby or not.

I put a call in today to JS Foster (Islander Reels) about maybe having the trophies done on a C&C machine but was told that you would need drawings etc. So that was out but after hearing about our plans they very quickly offered up a MR-3 for a donation. Without me asking!!! I hope it goes that well once I do start asking, because that is always the toughest part of putting these on. Also...it seems like there was some confusion about the title "You The Man". That was being suggested for the name of the trophy, not the derby. Chris Bos suggested Sport Fishing Banana Challenge which I think I prefer slightly over cup. Will be meeting tomorrow night and hopefully more news then.

I concur with Chris's name...it's pretty much the same as mine, and keeps with the spirit of the event.

Keep up the good work Rollie.

pro, if it only fails because of a drawing - I know a guy who is very good with this and would do this for free - and you all know him: High Five! Right???

Me and Chris73 met last night at the Monkey Tree Pub to discuss the next steps. We decided that we will have our posters, tickets and sponsor materials ready for the middle of February. That will give us 2 months of tickets sales. One of the questions I had was the seating capacity of Hermann's Jazz Bar where the Saturday night party will be held. I called last night and was told that between 120 and 130 guests is about right. 150 is there maximum capacity including staff. So when we launch in February we will have those tickets available as well. We decided last night that we should not have a full buffet in the bar but instead we will have appy's (chicken wings, veggie platters etc) I have to make some calls and get some prices for this to be put together or see if some of our lady friends down here want to take it on. Anyway the goal is to keep the cover charge at about $10 per head. We will be paying the band from the door sales. We are also determined to provide a few vehicles with sober drivers as a shuttle service so you can enjoy the evening and not worry about driving. A few of us (myself included) own vans and we will work something out.

High Five give me a call to discuss the trophies. I think emails would go back and forth longer than a phone call. My cell is 250-213-3055.

The final decision of a couple of important details. The derby will officially be called the "Sport Fishing Banana Challenge" and we will call the trophy the "Your The Man" trophy. Tickets prices are as follows...you guys get this early to help spread the word. If you are an existing South Vancouver Anglers Coalition member (SVIAC) you will pay $80 if fishing alone, $60.00 each for 2 per boat, or $40 each for 3 or more. If you are not a SVIAC member your tickets will cost $100 if fishing alone, $80 each for 2 per boat and $60 each for 3 or more. Those entry fees will include a membership with SVIAC!!! That is a $40 value and you are supporting a great cause....fish and fishing!!
As we approach our launch date we may ask for some help with getting posters out and displayed on the Island. Chris mentioned that he is up and down the Island on weekends as his boys are involved with hockey. I don't think he will be able to cover everywhere in a timely matter even though he offered to do it all. We could mail up some posters to those of you who are frequenting sporting good stores or marinas. I would also include a sponsor letter which will help you explain to the owner why he should display it in a prominent place and maybe even offer up something.

I also learned that we now have had an electric downrigger offered our way for a prize. I think I can make it a pair. So the ball is definetly rolling and things are coming together. This will be a fun event. I'll keep you guys posted when there is news to share.

Is someone locally here able to organize a bus for April 20 (Sat) night? Or someone know who has a large van or small bus?

I will make my 7 passenger Astro Van available, just have to get a driver. I think maybe 4 smaller vans would be better than 1 big bus. 4 vehicles can go in different directions and get back quicker to pick up more than one big vehicle could.

After my weekly Friday afternoon social down at the Esquimalt Anglers clubhouse a new prize category came out of some joking around. There will be a special prize for the person who had the most encounters with seals. So save your chewed off heads or what ever you got back and bring into the weigh scales to enter. LOL

>> You The Man then<<

Where's the free SFBC pop - up Derby banner advertisement on the forum, similar to the Tuna Shootout...

btw Bananas reminds me of a another "pro" who lurks on this forum

Brian did email me about being in support of this event and that they wanted to help. I have a poster almost ready now which could be adapted to a banner ad as well. I'm sure the pop up ad will happen. I'm not sure that other "pro" will enter this one...he doesn't like bananas much!! lol

If there's good haly tides chances are I will be booked . But if for some reason I'm not count me in to be in it. But I'll only be using 6 lb test wouldn't want a banana on the bow of my rig for the summer .;)

I haven't looked at the currents myself but the word is excellent hali weekend.

Well, if you are booked that weekend Trevor, why don't you ask your clients then to sign up for the derby and enter as the Anti-Banana Team?
