Me and Chris73 met last night at the Monkey Tree Pub to discuss the next steps. We decided that we will have our posters, tickets and sponsor materials ready for the middle of February. That will give us 2 months of tickets sales. One of the questions I had was the seating capacity of Hermann's Jazz Bar where the Saturday night party will be held. I called last night and was told that between 120 and 130 guests is about right. 150 is there maximum capacity including staff. So when we launch in February we will have those tickets available as well. We decided last night that we should not have a full buffet in the bar but instead we will have appy's (chicken wings, veggie platters etc) I have to make some calls and get some prices for this to be put together or see if some of our lady friends down here want to take it on. Anyway the goal is to keep the cover charge at about $10 per head. We will be paying the band from the door sales. We are also determined to provide a few vehicles with sober drivers as a shuttle service so you can enjoy the evening and not worry about driving. A few of us (myself included) own vans and we will work something out.
High Five give me a call to discuss the trophies. I think emails would go back and forth longer than a phone call. My cell is 250-213-3055.
The final decision of a couple of important details. The derby will officially be called the "Sport Fishing Banana Challenge" and we will call the trophy the "Your The Man" trophy. Tickets prices are as follows...you guys get this early to help spread the word. If you are an existing South Vancouver Anglers Coalition member (SVIAC) you will pay $80 if fishing alone, $60.00 each for 2 per boat, or $40 each for 3 or more. If you are not a SVIAC member your tickets will cost $100 if fishing alone, $80 each for 2 per boat and $60 each for 3 or more. Those entry fees will include a membership with SVIAC!!! That is a $40 value and you are supporting a great cause....fish and fishing!!
As we approach our launch date we may ask for some help with getting posters out and displayed on the Island. Chris mentioned that he is up and down the Island on weekends as his boys are involved with hockey. I don't think he will be able to cover everywhere in a timely matter even though he offered to do it all. We could mail up some posters to those of you who are frequenting sporting good stores or marinas. I would also include a sponsor letter which will help you explain to the owner why he should display it in a prominent place and maybe even offer up something.
I also learned that we now have had an electric downrigger offered our way for a prize. I think I can make it a pair. So the ball is definetly rolling and things are coming together. This will be a fun event. I'll keep you guys posted when there is news to share.
