Seasport skipper 19 podding project

Fishing tomorrow ?
That would be cool but there’s a fair bit of cleaning up to do and then getting all my gear back in the boat and setup. Then there’s the whole motor break in procedure I need to go through for both the main and the kicker. Some of which asks for running full throttle for a minute each time. He told me it does 45mph and don’t want that speed in a big chop 😂.

Here are some pics at home.
The 15hp kicker looks tiny next to the big motor. Helm is nice and clean. Boat is sitting nice on the trailer and rode great on the way home. Took it up to 105km on the highway and felt really good and stable.

Helm looks great. I wanted to go Merc and that 225 and kicker are both toque beasts. I went the cheap route and will envy you flying by. Do you have a small steering wheel below edge of the funnel beside the kicker throttle?

Yep, the Merc 225 Seapro is the v8, same block as the 250 & 300. No small steering wheel yet. I’ll see how it goes with cabin helm and auto pilot. It’s just another 15 hun or so 😜

Proper break in makes a huge difference

My wife and I finally got to go out in the boat. We went out late yesterday afternoon for the 2 hour break in procedure for the main engine. The first thing that comes to mind to describe the event was holy **** this is way more than I was expecting. The motor is way more powerful than the inboard we had before. It is up on step in an instant. It is smooth, quiet, powerful and fast. The way the boat performed with the new pod and outboard was great. The boat runs a lot flatter now and just slices through any chop. There was no sign of any porpoising. For the break in we had to run the motor at variable speeds up to 4500 rpm’s and then full throttle every 10 minutes for a minute. Speeds were 42-43mph at 5100-5200 rpm. I’m not sure I’ve ever been that fast in a boat 😳. I didn’t get the 45mph speed that the shop got out of it but I suspect it was due to my trimming inexperience with it.
The DTS throttle is way more touchy than the old Volvo throttle system and I need to be careful with it. It sure is responsive and smooth though.
I’m not thrilled with the helm that came with the uflex steering system. It sticks out from the console area quite a bit further than the old one. The steering wheel needed to be smaller diameter to give me more room. Apparently I can get the tilt helm that doesn’t stick out nearly as far and also tilts. I may have to do this.
Overall I am super happy with it and grateful that it has all worked out well so far. I sure am grateful and glad of all the help and advice I’ve received from the guys on this site, thanks everyone.

She looks very good, and sits perfectly in the water. If anything it helps to have her a bit bow down. The full full extension is the ticket for sure - having learned that from my first venture into podding a boat. Of course, putting the max power you can fit on the boat also is a game changer. You won't be disappointed. Congrats.

Here is what APM told me….3800ish it ran wide open at 5300RPM which it’s a 4800-5600 RPM engine. So it’s right in the sweet spot.
The SeaPro’s have a lower max RPM then? My 250 is rated to 6000RPM and I’ve propped it (19P) to hit 5900ish at full throttle.

It may be because it’s the 225hp and it’s the same 4.6L v8 as the 250 and 300’s. I think they rev higher.
The prop they set me up with is the enertia eco 16x17p.

Is that a 3 or 4 blade? I have Suzuki 3 blade 16x17p for my new engine. Hope the dealer guessed right, he was pretty confident.

Glad your wife is happy, I should tell mine “MRWood spent X and his wife is happy, so why are you upset I got such a good deal on my engine?”

When's the first fishing trip planned?

Yeah you’re probably right. Alberni did mine too, great guys and seems like they dialled you in good.

And if she doesn’t agree with that logic just tell her to “calm down”
