Seasport skipper 19 podding project

Are they functional and appropriately sized? New set is worth a slab of cash, don't discard without careful thought.
They were functional but very touchy. I’d have to assume correctly sized but don’t really know as that’s what has always been there.
Is touchy good? If the tabs are smaller does that make them less touchy?
What is considered a slab of cash?

Look up manufacturer website. Bennet? They should have resources about sizing, do the calcs to see if yours are correctly sized. You should also be able to find current pricing online. Full set with actuators, wiring and helm controls is about $1200-1500.

One thing to consider changing tabs is the electro tabs mount in the same spot and you need access on the inside of you hull to run wires. The wires are in the centre of the top mount.

Since you are doing a proper hull extension pod you might want to wait and see what space is available and really consider what size you need. I have Bennett electrics tabs and they are good so far. I know my boat is wider than yours but using my trim tabs is an exercise in how quick I can touch the rocker and let it go….lol. It’s really surprising just how little tab is required. I think if you need a lot of tab the pod might not of ticked all the boxes….imo.

Yep, it’s going to be a hull extension but the extension won’t go the whole width of the hull. The flotation portion usually goes about the width up to just before the tabs. The swim grid portion above will be full width.

Yep for sure I get that. I think you will find such a huge difference in a proper pod in overall performance. The tabs will still be useful but not required nearly as much with your original set up.

That was my thought too, to build a pod and do some test runs, and then tweak the trim tabs if needed. It will be so different in reaction to just the trim of the outboard motor, and handling characteristics. Who doesn’t love a good build thread?

I’ll need to have trim tabs. I haven’t seen a Seasport without them. Will speak with the pod builder about the width he needs on pod. Then I can adjust width of tabs if need be.

Get rid of those and get new ones. You might need to get the Bennett sport ones as you will might not have much room once extension goes on.

Also consider putting a thru hull transducer in your doghouse. They are pain running a transducer out to a pod. Look stupid.

I just looked at the sports…do they give more lift on less surface? Is it due to the wings on the sides?
Plan is to have a thru hull transducer with the new GPS unit.
Started last night getting things off the back transom. Picture looks a little odd as I used the wide angle. Plan is to have the transom bare for the fiberglasser to fill all the holes.

as mentioned i used the electric bennet tabs and will never run hydraulic tabs again, they are named the "bennet bolt" best tabs i have run
Do you like them for performance reasons, or just the simpler mechanisms?

You might be able to keep your existing tabs and just buy a couple Lenco actuators and switch for the dash they are electric. The tabs will just be working to level the boat side to side and stuffing the bow down a bit as required.

your builder will need somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-34” so 15-17” from C and about the same for setback pending your motor choice.

Thanks Brando, I’ll give it a measure. I’m sure I’ll have room. The current tabs are 14” wide.
