That's a great size fish for that area. Were you close to town or further out. Has me wondering if there are any fish in Egmont area.

I got out to the hump fairly early on Thursday the 9th. Noticed early that some boats were changing directions, and not just going the same way as the tide or wind. later I heard a fella report he had 5 on btw 7:30 and 9:30 am on white hootchies and lost them all, groan! Pretty sure I saw his boat.
I put on 2 spoons and 2 other artificials. I got a 16lb marbled at 130' on a 3.5 green/glow /Coyote around 9 am. So I put out another same spoon, on the other side of the boat, deep line. nothing until 9:40 when checking and pulling gear to go home. I was bringing the rigger up and a fish hit at about 60-70 ' on the latest spoon. lost him at the boat fooling with the rigger. seemed the same size or close.
Later at the4 cleaning table... in her stomach were 2 only, 5" herring and in her throat was a 7.5" herring. so much for matching the hatch!!
Beware of the P. cod.

At the hump now. Barely a ripple v compared to this morning. Bait on one side homeland security on the other. Dragged a p-cod for however long. No hits. 4-5 other boats out here.

Pssst......where Angelina is fishing. There ARE fish out there. We went 2 for 4......and lost a screamer!!!
Was out from ~8am til we pulled the plug at 1 to get a buddy back into the dock.
It layed down beautifully around 11:30.....not that there was much for seas.
Here's one pic......will post others when I get them off my phone.
OH YA! A report! The fish were below the surface and above bottom. Haha. We threw every spoon imaginable at them.....and a glow white hooch was the only thing that produced and got every hook up. We were towards the northern part of the Hump....~100-120 was the ticket; all fish hooked up within about 200 yards of one another. Also....when cleaning out the fish we bonked....almost 7" herring in their stomachs and one had it right in his throat.

Nice looking fish there Pippen.... I knew that I should had gone out... The weatherman said wind and rain. Got to work tomorrow hopefully they are still there next weekend. See You Out There !!!!

Yes there were fish, and seals. Hooked up to one at 140 feet on green onion and homeland security and within 20 seconds of reeling it in it took off. I couldn't gain on it at all for about a minute and eventually it surfaced a couple hundred yards behind me with a seal on its back. It then took the last few feet of my freshly spooled 300 yards of line. I got the battle on gopro. Not the first time I got sealed at the hump. All was forgotten at 4:35 when I landed a 13.5# on anchovie and Chartreuse flasher at about 130 feet. I was fishing the eastern tip of the hump. I'm happy to start the season with a healthy hat trick (7 keeper crabs and ~150 prawns).

report from the hump today sunday 10.30 -12.30 sea's 1-2 foot chop
with 20 or so boats out there and scattered about
a few fish where being caught, had two long line releases and a p-cod
only fish to the boat was a small undersize
fishing deepish 121-160 glow flashers with hootchies
lost a cannonball frist thing at tunstall and bumped off a log so boat being pulled
and have to get the prop re-balanced .....
hope to be in action for some calmer weather when it gets here ....
oh and when i was running out seen mr orca up ahead
heading into the sound ...

a few fish at the Hump in the am, one over 20lbs. water was bumpy and the wind was pushing us to Nanaimo.
cop car on green flasher and white hootchie on blue flasher had the action. 80'-130'.
saw a few fish taken by other boats. great season opener

Several Guide Boats had a fantastic day today. More than 1 limited their guests. Get in the fish, then stay ion the fish...that's the key. The largest fish of the season was moved upwards today...in Vancouver waters... I'll leave it to them to post on their reports but It's the largest April fish I can recall getting hauled out in recent years.
Anchovies and Spoons then Hoochies Were the most productive in that order.
