Looks like a solid size , how did it eat?I put in 3 hours just west of halibut bank a couple weeks ago. Got one at 800'. View attachment 92894
Progress.Tried off the hump in 800 fow but was getting blown around too much even with 16 oz of lead . Moved in off lions bay and our drift finally layed down around 745. Next 30 mins we hooked to in 800’ , down around 650. Both doubled the trevalas over pretty good . I’m not sure if I was reeling too fast or what I was doing wrong but they both popped off with about 200’ to go . Will be back
Probably 1lb. Good, it went into a variation on this recipe:Looks like a solid size , how did it eat?
Can you feel them hit, or is it more of change in the weight of the line?I put in 3 hours just west of halibut bank a couple weeks ago. Got one at 800'. View attachment 92894
I felt a series of small taps , then weight . Can distinctly feel them let go when you lose themCan you feel them hit, or is it more of change in the weight of the line?
It was unmistakable when I got that one. I was wondering how subtle it was going to be, it wasn't at all.Can you feel them hit, or is it more of change in the weight of the line?
I've got a bunch of that size rigged up that way. Never got to use it in the 5 years I've had it. Very interestingIt was unmistakable when I got that one. I was wondering how subtle it was going to be, it wasn't at all.
I would recommend a pretty light rod though. It is after all only a 1lb animal.
You don't need huge jigs. I was using the little 3" long ones from Amazon. Also you can legally daisy chain as many as you want. I ran 5, limited by they length of rig I could lift into the boat with the rod I was using.View attachment 92905
Oh nice. That's seems like it would have better action. Also this option when using the smaller jigs: View attachment 92923
More about keeping the squid on I think.Oh nice. That's seems like it would have better action.
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing that.More about keeping the squid on I think.
What was the general area you were fishing in?So me and a buddy got out yesterday and tried this. This was new territory for both of us. we were told find the krill, under the krill is the hake, and under the hake are squid. we ended up jigging in about 575-600’ fow and we managed to get four squid. the taxman chewed one in half on the way up.
it was very exciting g considering g this was an entirely new fishery
He said already, in the ocean at 575-600 FOW.What was the general area you were fishing in?
just off savary island. in 1100’What was the general area you were fishing in?
