How to unload Chinese tin boats

Lol, first hand info, all the crew here will disagree with you, can’t be its from china
after the second world war, japan was pumping out all sorts of products to north america. cameras, cars, tools etc. they were cheap, functional. they slowly ramped up their quality to the point, nobody questions anything made in japan anymore. (Shimano, Daiwa Datsun, toyota honda )

i feel like china is doing the same. it may take 20 more years, until they get there. the bigger impact is on the economy but i’m not going there.

BTW if anyone wants to see a scary documentary, youtube the walmart freighter. ( not sure if that’s the exact name) this is a monstrosity of a super freighter that sails to north america offloading goods direct to our walmart. it has special paint on the hull designed to be more fuel efficient etc.

this freighter SAILS BACK TO CHINA EMPTY, a practice quite uncommon in the shipping industry, to try and maximize their profits. that’s how much stuff is imported into US by just one ship.

I gave an example the other day about Amundsen reels, lots rave how good they are and cheap (china made ) lol, probably the guys bashing the boats are the ones owning them. I for one have eyes wide open when it come to stuff from china, 90% of the stuff I buy to keep me afloat comes from china, some is garbage some is good

yup same as WestCoast Fishing Tackle. all offshore. i absolutely love their rods. bulletproof.

Milwaukee, Dewalt and Makita all manufacture tools and batteries in China. The factories are directly owned by the brands, and they also control the design, engineering and QA. Unsurprisingly, they maintain quality and market share. China can make you any quality you want.

And of course the iPhones that China haters use to post their hate are made in.... guess where?

Yup, and even if we had factories here to produce any thing, try finding the labour needed to do it, not happening lol, once older guys like me and lots of us retire good luck getting anything built

Agreed on you points. But the big difference here is that all of the companies you mention have extensive track records, brand value that they don't wan't to lose, dealer and warranty networks, corporate headquarters over here, etc. They also have their own QC people in the factories making sure that the products up to scratch before they are approved for export.

In the case of these boats, there is none of the above. If you have an issue, who do you go to? If one sinks, what recourse is there? If a local builder has a boat go down, not only is their reputation that they worked hard to build over years going to go take a hit if there is gross negligence, there is probably going to be a Transportation Canada / Coast Guard investigation to make sure any problems are rectified. For an offshore boat, a slight design and name change and they can continue selling a subpar product to maximize profit.

IMHO, I don't see it happening anytime soon. Japan has a cultural that places high value on making quality goods that goes back centuries. After the second world war, they have had a free market economy which forces companies to continue to improve. Not until China opens up and their domestic companies aren't protected / subsidized by the government will there be a big change. Taiwan is probably a better expample in that they started making low cost, low value products until being forced to compete and improve.

Again calling a sub par before seeing one, until I see one sinking myself it’s all internet keyboard assumption , there is a well know tin boat builder that their boats are sinking and they seem to still sell

It's all part of their multi pronged approach to weaken and undermine our Western Civilization. Dump boatloads of cheap, disposable junk on us, boatloads of drugs to weaken our society, and promoting multiple social "causes" that are a complete waste of our time, energy and resources. But hey, this is a fishing forum right?? ;)

Yes we all are forced to purchase items made in china, however, wal mart etc will be selling CSA (Canadian Standards Association.) certified items (or at least they will have a counterfeit CSA sticker on the item) and have a service desk you can go to when said pos item is broken/defective. Buying an item directly from a Chinese manufacturer opens up a bunch of different risks (counterfeit, low quality, non csa approved, poisonous materials in product, slave labour used to build product, and what kind of return/warranty policy do you get??) Hopefully the OP never has to find out...

This is a country that is known to de-engineer and counterfeit EVERYTHING. They will even counterfeit baby formulas. We all know someone with a "Chinese" quad or dirt bike in their backyard - broken down piece of crap and can't find parts to fix it lol. No way in hell would I spend a significant amount of money on an unknown product like a boat from over there.

All internet keyboard assumption? I posted a photo earlier. It’s still here sitting on the side of the road awaiting insurance if you want to check it out.

csi , do you know the cause??lots of boats sink for all kinds of readons, and no I’ve seen no pics. I already made it clear as day I am never going to own a tin boat, from china or here don’t matter, my reference is all about guys with opinions that don’t know **** , in the 30 years of fishing and owning boats in Bc I’ve seen all kinds upside down at the docks and 90% of those wasn’t because of the boat it was because of the owner, I rescue boat at our marina 2-3 times a season because the owners are not that sharp

Jesus, what ever happened to my grandfathers view of the world. I build stuff and don’t complain about things I buy, knowing they won’t be as good as the stuff I make.

Lots of options to buy a kit and weld one’s own or find a welder and pay him cash if you hate china and our own government. Then the unbranded boat will be worth less but you can “trust it”.

Dumping drugs? Are we just like the US blaming Mexico and everyone else because of the high margin illegal market we created.

My Chinese Canadian friends who are in manufacturing and aerospace are awesome and governments from all over the world trust them. Sure there is shifty **** in Chinese business and Government but we can say the same for US and Canada.

Good manufacturing brands are built over decades and worth a premium because they come with a warranty. The lifetime warranty of a lot of the BC and US boat brands are worth a lot, as is the ability to sea trial a boat before ordering or get on a charter and try it offshore.

Funny I have 2 Chinese quad and they run just fine, because I make them run, again the owner is the problem on those lol, lots of part avail for cheap

You started a thread promoting the build quality of these Chinese aluminums then won’t listen to anyone’s opinion on the topic. Some of them being pretty valid.

Anyways here are the photos again. I “don’t know ****” but I’ll go take some of first hand photos of the welds and build quality. Hopefully that’s not considered internet hearsay.
You need to start from the top and read, I’ve never promoted the quality of the built, I’ve said the welding I could see look as good as any local boats, never had time to look properly at the boat, more then welding to a quality of a boat, again a boat upside down at a dock, nothing new here hundreds end up that way, until I know why it sank then it’s just assuming, assumption is a guess

Drug pre cursers all come from china. Proven.

Chinese Communist Party Police Stations in Canadian Cities. Proven

Only naive, cuck governments like Trudeau are stupid enough to still trust Chinese "scientists". They are spies and are being kicked out of countries that are smart enough to do so. They are also running disinformation campaigns and influencing democratic systems for their own benefit. Proven.

Chinese manufacturing is known for being Cheap. Not quality. Proven time and again through personal anecdotes and raw data.

But hey, if you can save a few grand on a boat, good on ya.

Sounds like agree to disagree on this one. If you never have or will own an aluminum boat these imports might look comparable to local builders at face value.

I ended up poking around that build after that thread and would start making a list of serious build quality issues but it doesn’t sound like you want to hear them anyways. Good luck if importing.
Any idea which builder out of china did the build?
