I believe a group of North African Salafists hatched the plan for 9/11 in Spain. Al-Zahari or Bin Laden likely new very little about the attacks. The Al-qaeda terrorist 'training camps' which were widely publized as one of the many reason for the invasion were in fact, 4 months prior to 9/11, US (CIA) funded basic combat training facilities, in which the US trained young Mujahideen fighters that had travelled from outside of Afganistan to wage Jihad (not a 'holy war', but a call by the Muslim religion to defend and support other Muslims who are being oppressed by outside forces) against the Russian Communists who still had interests in Northern Afganistan (see Turkmenistan, Uzebekistan, Tajikistan). The US and Russians have obviously had competing interests. Afganistan happened to be another, as it was the only possible way to run a pipeline from the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf. Not saying it was about oil either (but it was)...
Go back to world war 2. Why did Italy lose? The Germans used their oil reserves. Why did Germany lose? Aside from butt-whooping Allies, but they ran out of fuel as well. It doesn't matter how big your war machine is, if you don't have the fuel to run it you will lose. That is why since the fall of the Third Reich the US has made it its diplomatic mission to maintain interest in the middle east...(see the creation of Isreal, ie. Mini-America, that is smack dab in the middle of the middle east and it's oilfields. Coincidence? Maybe, but the Military force stationed in and around Israel by the US has the striking power to within hours, meet any challenge the Mideast may have. The same can be said for Saudi Arabia.
Back to Afganistan, the puppet ruler put into power by the US, Hamid Karzai, was actually an executive of Chevron oil, one of the first major corporations to show interest in Afganistan, oddly enough Karzai's connections with the CIA run well below the surface. Karzai is flanked by literally hundreds of American Mercinaries, for protection. He is widely hated in Afganistan....and no body in Afganistan wears that green hat!
