how close is too close?

I read into reelfast's post as a suggestion that you might get charged with assault or what have you.

Reelfast's only point, I think, is the good one that no matter how rude it might be to crowd someone on the water when fishing, violence, or even threats of violence as a response, is simply unacceptable, as it is in most every other situation, and could land a person in serious trouble. Remember, we are talking about fishing, and it's a big ocean. I just can't imagine anyone getting that upset about someone crowding them. Even a bad tangle and loss of gear cannot justify threats of, or actual, violence.

ever had someone almost pull your boat down or sideways because of stupidity?, yes violence is not acceptable but,,,, a near death experience can cloud your better judgement or common sense.. last year i had an innocent lookin couple troll accross my anchor line.. i tried the radio.. the horn.. the air horn to no avail.. a flare across their bow finally caught their attention just as they caught me and towed me along..then wanted to **** around with their gear instead of backing off and cutting off... then started sliding up my line to within 50' of my boat..scary!!!

Not saying that such a scenario wouldn't make a person justifiably angry and scared, but isn't the first thing you do in that case is cut your bow/stern line to disconnect you from the anchor and prevent the near death experience?

My apologies to everyone for posting up that link. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously or to try and instigate any type of heated arguments, tho I can sense alot of anger towards the ignorant folk on the seas these days. Seems alot of them were never brought up to treat others in a respectful manner and some just don't care..I thought fried hali and chips was always considered a crowd favorite.

:)

seems like alot of peeps need to get out fishing instead of arguing its all over the board, fishing is waaaaaaaay more relaxing!

mAYBE THE WARNING WAS TO THE EFFECT THAT YOU MAY SHOOT A POTATO AT SOMEBODY AND THEY MAY REPLY WITH A SMALLER BUT MORE DEADLY CALIBRE? I am a Canadian vetran and it might be news to you, but we tend to be shooting at others in the world as we speak. it would be wise to google "sniper" and check out how far we can shoot a .50 cal in aphganistan...a little further than a potato. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbzVpcTrQb4

I really don’t care if you guys want to shoot all "potato guns" or whatever your heart desires at each other. However I agree with the above, it could get ugly very fast. I would certainly recommend and agree to heed his warning! You got it from a"Canuck" veteran point of view; I guess I'll just give it to you from a "Yank" veteran point of view. I do NOT recommend pointing or shooting any gun, even a “potato gun” at anyone and with most people there is probably not much to worry about. Unless, you happen to be a combat veteran you cannot know how the mindset changes. I really wouldn't suggest pointing “anything” that resembles a weapon (gun) at anyone; however, if that someone just happens to be any combat veteran be they either a Canuck or Yank - "someone" is going to get hurt and/or dead. That "someone" will probably be YOU!

You Canucks and Yanks can bash each other all you want about the other comments, but you are talking governments, not people. Just for the record... Japan attacted first (Pearl Harbor). Afghanistan (remember 9/11). Concerning some of the areas mentioned, including Vietnam and Iraq, you might want to check why and how the U.S. even got involved... it would be a thing called the U.N., which Canada is part and is/was and voted in all. The first nation the U.N. goes to for any type of military action happens to be the U.S.

thanks folks. violence begets violence and that is not what fishing is all about. sure, i have had idiots cut me off, wrap my gear and ignore my yelling about what was about to happen. unfortunately, our world is full of idiots but getting involved in an altercation is hardly worth being charged with assault or worse. for my 2cents, i move along as the strait is a huge body of water and the fish down there are not home bodies, go find'um and enjoy your day.

No to change the subject but that looks like a Langara lodge coat but I see down riggers? I thought they don't do that at Langara lodge, what boat is that?

It is a Langara Jacket. They do have 2 Grady Whites at the lodge. I usually self-guide up there, but we used the Grady with the above friend as he was almost killed in a car wreck and the Grady was easier for him to fish. I also like the Grady for anchoring and Hali fishing! The guide we had was Dave Carr. He is an UNBELIEVABLE guide. He knows his stuff inside and out.

Those potato guns can do a lot of damage. I know cuz i used to have one and got in a little trouble with it.

I much prefer a 2 man water balloon launcher......way more fun and non lethal :)

Hard to go postal on 2 guys launching water balloons at your boat. Seems like a good option. It would get the point across and make me laugh!

Love to hear your theory on how Afghanistan caused 9/11 - lol

Well, Ole Poppa Swiss I am glad you think killing people is "LOL" situation, "frankly" I don't! I didn't say afghanistan caused 9/11, at all. afghanistan was the result of 9/11. Why don't you take your little "trolling" mouse of yours and point it to Google. Use that little "trolling brain of yours" and type in "tiliban""bin laden" "afghanistan" and then come back and discuss - who was supporting who, who was hiding who, and who actually told the Tiliban if they didn't give up someone who killed thousands of both U.S. and "Canadian" citizens WE WERE coming after him. Then also take that little trolling mind of yours and find out which countries supported that. Then take you little trolling mind and find out how many Canadian troops went there and FYI... did a DAMN fine job of KILLING PEOPLE! I appreaciate you thoughts; however, not your "trolling" and is about time someone calls a "troll" a "troll" and you sir, are one! Here is a present, just for YOU!

Have a great day and let us all know what facts your trolling fingers and that simple mind find!
