how close is too close?

Spin has a good story from today he may or may not want to share! Lol

He handled himself very well under the circumstances , I wouldn't have been that nice. Good on ya buddy!

It sounds like you boys need to get into some new halibut fishing rigs, ones with pest deterent options.

If you were fishing in this thingyou most likely wouldn't have to worry about someone anchoring too close, and if they did, well just let off a couple of shots, they would most certainly move and right quickly!:p

Anchored of west race yeeterday, when I got there there was once other boat in the vicinity but I gave him shitloads of room, like 500m. Not sure exactly but definitely could not even really see the people on it.

A short while after I noticed two or three other boats anchor in what seemed like his immediate vicinity. Hard to tell cause of my distance but sure seemed like it. Funny thing was, these boats kept on moving around within the area; pulling anchor then dropping again?! WTF?! Are you that impatient to get a bite?! ;) But ya, seemed like they were all way too close together!

Also had a guy pull up beside me to ask how the fishing was there; told him it was slow - truthfully it was - and he took off, but I could see in his boat the anchor system he had ready to go. He was by himself. IMO, even on a good current day it probably isn't a good idea to be doing such a potentially dangerous thing by yourself, unless you're an experienced guide. Especially later on in the day when the winds picked up - I found it a sketchy pull even with the other hand on board!

Did you find any out there Hazzard?

That was absolutly just stupid insane, in seas like that to boot.

I have a video of this lets say for benifit of doubt reasons... under educated individual that I will keep under my lid. The 3 of us all a mile apart, Bananas, Gord and me. Im first on the scene and out comes Trevor, followed by Gord and in "tow like a seagull it appeared" this lets just say "boat" proceeds to sets up right beside Gord....Just waiting for the fireworks to follow....silence....Hour later I let gord know its come on like donkey kong. The alluminum CC then runs over corks me on his GPS, watched him do it as he was a rod tip away looking at our fish hanging there. Proceeds to drop in front of us in a heavy ebb, drag his anchor right across my 600' of line 60' chain, tangle into my anchor line and pull me off my spot as the straps broke free of my anchor. So we lose fish number 5 in the process.Had to madly pull all our gear and anchor up. Then he says he gets it, ya, ya, sorry etc. Then while im dragging anchor in 400 feet of water now getting ready to pull, he proceeds to drop right behind me. I.D.I.O.T. Ahh maybe I should post a hall of shame picture...hmmmm....as he just did not appear get it. Most get it, some just have no clue. Upwellings etc. boats swing diffrent ways even 200 feet apart. We were in no mans land no structure but he had to be right on us WTF.

Ya that was pretty shity !! That's why I havnt been saying anything on the radio , it's not worth it . Text and phone is all! That could have gone bad in a second ! It was a nasty se lump . I hope he learned a lesson and he's lucky it was you and not one of a few other people! Lol

The worst part was there was only 4 boats out in the whole friggen ocean!

All these anchoring "horror" stories would make excellent foder for a new reality tv series - maybe they can call it - "As The Tide Turns"

So true - 8 years ago my bro and I anchored near the same place, about 1 hr. before slack - on a good current day. Fishing was slow - we stayed too long. My bro calls that his near death experience as we cut the anchor loose in desperation. It was like being anchored in a river. Too many other places to fish with no stress to ever giver that spot another go...

500feet of anchor line -no wonder you have problems your drifting all over the place

i do not think you understand anchoring....600' is pretty much standard...

Everyone should have bottle rockets or slingshots or lots of lead balls on hand just for this reason. I almost feel bad for anyone that tries to anchor within range of me... Had to pop off a few in the past and let's just say they don't continue to set anchor and if they ever do I'm sure they will be moving fast lol
