how close is too close?

500feet of anchor line -no wonder you have problems your drifting all over the place
Everybody has their own personal spin/therory on halibut anchoring techniques - perhaps you can enlighten us with your own anchoring particulars to the 1000? locations mentioned or should i say not mentioned on this forum ;)

If it's who i think it is, he's been anchoring and fishing for Halibut for a long, long time...
I used to see his name in the newspaper with some pretty impressive results.
Not to say you're wrong, but i don't think he is either. :)

i do not think you understand anchoring....600' is pretty much standard...
After further checking my Power Squadron Manual Lol... the required scope is 6 - 1

Trust me bee15 knows what he's talkin about!! Pretty much taught me everything I know bout catching Halibut! He's the one that invented the halibut anchoring system! You can use any length you want but I know what he's talkin about. Weather depending I'll put out enough rope to hit bottom and hook up, then when you swing you stay on the spot you have been working and won't move 500 ft away.

6/1 is what you need for safe anchoring overnight.

Haha! I remember the First time I did the Bee 15 method or what I thought he told me to do, lol. I had my hali do hotlaps around my anchor, . Don't know how he does it! My arms were sore hand pulling my anchor to get my fish.:p

Everyone should have bottle rockets or slingshots or lots of lead balls on hand just for this reason. I almost feel bad for anyone that tries to anchor within range of me... Had to pop off a few in the past and let's just say they don't continue to set anchor and if they ever do I'm sure they will be moving fast lol
I always buy shooting flares and just waiting to use all my expired ones for this reason. So far haven't had a reason to light up anyone yet.LOL

I am no expert at this but have been using the Bee 15 method too. I find if the current or the wind moves me then it is getting too much to stay and it is time to move and I only use the recommended scope when overnighting.

carefully consider what you may bring down on your head should you start shooting whatever at other human beings.

i suppose common sense is not a canadian thing! pretty sad post trophywife.

ya sad post your right, hahaha, potatoes are nothing compared to what may rain down on our heads if we don't use our common sense... HAHAHA, maybe my family is japanese or iraqi or?, and i am sensitive to your warning...lighten up,, its the interweb...

i have no idea what you are talking about trophywife.

pointing whatever at other humans, however, is not an ok thing with the old cowboy, my one and only point. your parochial view of the US and its citizens came through loud and clear.

Damn I have family there! Ruined by blood.

i have no idea what you are talking about trophywife.

sorry that i found humor in the irony that an American was warning people to watch out for what they shoot at others,, my apologies, really....

mAYBE THE WARNING WAS TO THE EFFECT THAT YOU MAY SHOOT A POTATO AT SOMEBODY AND THEY MAY REPLY WITH A SMALLER BUT MORE DEADLY CALIBRE? I am a Canadian vetran and it might be news to you, but we tend to be shooting at others in the world as we speak. it would be wise to google "sniper" and check out how far we can shoot a .50 cal in aphganistan...a little further than a potato. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbzVpcTrQb4

Who carries a .50 cal on their boat? It would take some balls and a little stupidity to blast a potato at a fellow fisher, regardless of the reason, but it takes a nut job to fire back with a fire arm. Maybe that **** does down in Pudget Sound, but not Race Rocks.
