Driving an EV pickup

Those with deep pockets....

Cadi has there new Escalade coming soon....electric

All the bells and whistles..... $198,000 pre taxes

First one showed up in our store a couple of days ago.

Makes the old Escalade look a little outdated

Can look at the "E" Corvette that is just touching $198K plus tax!

Taking factory orders now, how many would you like!

Tow rating on the Escalade?

The escalade ev will be built on the same large form factor Ultium platform as the Silverado/Sierra pickup. GM will be able to pump out an array of SUV and truck models on that base now.

No surprise they've released the Caddy SUV first, sell some of those high margin vehicles ASAP to get some R&D money back. Was the same with the trucks, the $130K RST trim was out for several months before they started selling the more affordable WT models.

My Lightning has some factory bulletins building up, possible firmware fixes. Battery management module and a possibly faulty front parking sensor. I'm not experiencing any noticeable problems, but best to have it done anyway. It's free, and maybe the problem will show itself later. 32,000 km service was due so I've booked in for all items at once.

The scheduled maintenance includes tire rotation - already done when winters went on - and an underbody inspection. Front end, suspension and brakes all seem like sensible checks after a year and a half. $80.

Noted the dealer had just two Lightnings on the lot, both sold. They have a big inventory of gas trucks though. Sales guy said the lower trim models sell as fast as they arrive, and the high end ones don't sell so they don't stick them. I sure see a lot of Lightnings on the road now. Rare day you don't see one or two.

Logical choice to put them in existing gas stations. Drivers and passengers of EVs have the same needs as ICErs: coffee, drinks, snacks, air, windshield stuff, toilets. And refueling of course, just a different type of fuel. Gas station owners have lots of capital invested in their facilities, and the margins on non-fuel items are better than on gas and diesel anyway. Adapt by offering the new fuel choice as well as FF, and keep the non fuel profit coming in.

Standalone network like Electrify Canada and Tesla are positioned in strategic locations, and they have fast chargers, but mostly they have nothing else. Truly nothing else, not even a garbage can. Might be a toilet in an adjacent facility like a tourist info centre, but often these have limited hours. What's the point of a super fast charge when you still have to find somewhere else for a coffee and a pee stop?

Co-op and others like them can pick up some new business by offering modest speed charging on routes the big boys aren't yet servicing. BC Hydro and Flo are doing this already, but again the problem is no other facilities with them. All else being equal, I'd choose the gas station chargers.
Would be nice if the gas stations actually improve maintenance of their chargers. I'm a bit tired of seeing out-of-order signs. Thats the biggest upside of the supercharger network that I can see...they generally are kept in good working order, since Tesla owners have no choice. Gas stations don't seem to give a crap if their two chargers work or not.

And how about starting to post the $/kWh rates and compete a little? Getting dinged up to 60 cents / kWh is frustrating.

Ah, I see you've tried to charge at a PetroCanada location! Pricing by the minute for chargers that often run at a quarter to a third of their claimed speed, ridiculous as well as expensive. I haven't used at Petrocan unit in months, will continue to avoid if possible. Their scores on Plugshare indicate this is not an isolated problem. I'd suggest that their choice of charging equipment was poor; unreliable units that either don't run as fast as they should, or just break down completely.

The Chevron units are OK, but risky. If the internal battery is depleted, your charge will be slow, only as fast as the input power supply can handle, maybe a fifth of the rated 180 kW. They do now have the internal battery SOC displayed on the screen, but sadly don't seem able to share this data to the internet so it can be seen on Plugshare or their Journie app to help you assess options as you're approaching the location. One good thing about the internal battery concept is they don't share power with other chargers at the location. If the battery has capacity, you'll get full speed even if the unit beside it is in use. Just try to avoid busy times of day/days of week, and also avoid locations with just one charger (this last is good principle to apply for any trip planning). The payoff for the risk is they're priced at 45 cents/kWh vs the 60-70 cent prices at EC and Tesla, and they generally have lots of room for trailers.

Shell I've only used twice. Seemed OK but didnt run close to as fast as posted, and again, Plugshare reviews indicate this is systemic.

this will be the standard get everyone to adopt and then jack up pricing, like netflix
Seems like supply/demand. In the case of Netflix, delivering streaming video to millions of people is incredibly expensive. Not to say they don’t make an absolute killing - but isn’t delivering amazing ROI for shareholders sort of the most benevolent and righteous thing in today’s society?

Competition seems to drive down pricing on most things. Electricity is a commodity where Netflix and Disney have something unique?

What blows me away is Tesla milking their fans. US pricing and Canadian pricing. I'm seeing a handful of Cybertrucks in Victoria now. I wonder when the 20k usd price drop is coming up north? The current exchange rate has US version at 105 CAD vs 138 CAD from Telsa Canada.

Canadian Cybertruck customers should wait a bit, the big price drop in the US recently will probably hit here eventually. But first they'll make sure all the keeners stump up for the hot new wheels at the special introductory price... (hint: it's not a special price at all).

I don't understand the appeal. At. All.
Well...I admit I was an extremely early reservation. Clicked that button as I watched Frans smash the glass. Tried to tell myself it was cool. But as the development fiasco went on and on, I decided to pass on my order opportunity and go with a Lightning. Zero regrets. I needed an actual truck.

I do think more models succeeding in the market is good for us all. Even the US automakers are lobbying the new administration to NOT claw back EV incentives, because they want to capitalize on their huge investments. So...go go cyberstuck? (apologies to any cybertruck owners on the thread...but I kinda am guessing cybertruck owners don't fish....

I saw 3 cyber trucks on my way to grab lunch today. They are selling obviously so who knows if we will get the price drop anytime soon.
I suspect youre seeing a sudden surge of CT sightings because Canadian orders are finally being delivered. Already theyve announced any model can be ordered without a reservation., Once the faithful have been served, and sales slow down, that's when you'll see the price drop.
