King Cod,

I'm coming up to CR from Vancouver for this weekend. Staying in CR but gonna fish north. We usually head up to greensea or sometimes make the run all the way to Hall/Denham. Any recent reports from these areas would be much appreciated as I haven't been up there in weeks. Hope the fishing has been good for everyone up there.

Vancouver has been better than it has been in ages. Sockeye galore!

You do not have to leave the water once your limit is caught, you can stay out all day and catch and release, it is only steelhead fishing that you are required to leave once your limit of hatchery fish is caught.. why... this i cannot answer.

Nice to see everyone having a good time out there!

cheers

WOW yesturday was a boat gong show, I should have taken some video. Fishing was decent till around 8:30am then it slowed right down. There was boats EVERYWHERE, at one point I counted 97 boats between SepHead and Deepwater. That's WAY too many boats for that area.
Don't forget folks you can take a total of 4 salmon a person regardless of what combined species you end up with.
Also keep an eye out for Coho, as you are only aloud the clipped adipose (fin near the tail) Coho's.
If you get lucky and manage to scoop your 4 for everyone on board, your salmon fishing for the day is over.

It's true you can stay out, but what happens when you get a bleeder, you are entitled to take that fish as part of your daily quota and if you can't add that fish to your pile - what a waste. Better to be selective all day long letting the fish that aren't badly hooked go and risk not going home with a limit than the former option. Otherwise it's much more ethical to get your fish and move on.

Surely nobody would catch and release without an open notch on their licence. Would they? [V]That seems unethical to me, if nothing else. I never allow that on my boat.

So what happens when you catch a wild Coho and it's a bleeder? Do you keep it or make it Crab bait?

let it float away - thats all DFO lets us do - had to let 2 nice coho float last week - nothing I could do, pretty gimped even by the time they got to the boat. It's lame, but at the same time, DFO can't allow us to 'keep' crippled fish or else everyone would say their catch was crippled - loophole city.

thx King Cod. Let me know how things go for you out there. Had another stellar day with the sockeye on the fraser this afternoon and looking forward to getting into some fish up in CR!!

Yup what Deewar25 said, if you aren't legally aloud to keep it, the fish goes back.
Sadly I've had to let a number of Coho float/sink away. Some I've spent a LONG time trying to revive, a few make it and some don't.
But Deewar25 is right, if you could keep it EVERYONE would say that the fish they caught wasn't going to make it and BONK!

No open slot on our lic,-my boat is finished fishing period. Be selective all day if the fishing is that good-let them go if they are in good shape keep them if not. Once you've got your limit all you are doing is killing fish you don't need to!

A buddy invited me out, and I just got back from 2 days(1 night on his boat) sportfishing for sockeye up at Greensea,We did ok,lost more than we landed, the commercial trollers were slaying them all day Monday, I'd say a little slower for the trollers today. When we got to Greensea Monday afternoon the socks were jumping for as far as the eye could see,and into the evening, managed to even get one on a small pink buzzbomb!!

We woke up to Heavy THICK fog this morning, got to use the radar, made our way out to Greensea, fog broke later in the morning but slow fishing for us,no sign of any sockeye from Greensea down to Deepwater, landed only 1 humpy[:I]
great way to spend some time off though....

Story was the same for me today. Hit Plumper bay in the morning due to fog. One pink in the boat in the first few minutes. Headed to Greensea and lost a nice Spring at the surface. No Sox for me today :( Hope the bite is on tomorrow.

Reel Chaos

Was out at Plumpers and Deepwater today, not a bite except the one dog fish. Didn't see anyone bringing in anything, quite a few boats out! Of course the commercial boats were brining in fish though:(:( Anyone else have any luck today?

Well a little better today. 1 7.6lb sock,1 6lb pink, lots of bites a few shakers and some lings. was up at Chatham. Everything was in the 20-40 ft range.

Great morning on the water. Sox jumping EVERYWHERE on the west side of the Straits from Rock Bay to Browns Bay on the morning ebb.

Two of us picked up 1 pink, 1 chinook. 6 sockeye, 1 lingcod, and two rockies in short order this morning.

Lost a large coho and several other sockeye too..... Got to love that!!! Any other reports???? [?]
