Boats on Used Victoria and Other Areas

Me and you are on Never AGAIN IO train, every time I see one at the launch I tell myself poor guy 😂😂
For decades, the inboard outboard was the preferred choice of propulsion, the boats that had them cost more to buy and sold for more. But the modern four stroke outboard motor has really changed the game. Maybe trolling with the I/O leg is not good for them?

I use to like them, 350 easy engine to work on, but then I realize that working on them more then boating and fishing sucked, watched all these guys with outboards go season after season without breaking down made me realize that there is something wrong with this picture

I had a 350 Magnum with an Alpha one, and a 454 with a Bravo two. Other than regular maintenance, I didn’t have any trouble, and I agree that working on a small block and a big block Chevy with lots of room around it Was really quite easy. I had to farm out the leg maintenance though.

I am looking for a new family friendly boat and have many of the same requirements that Raincity had - the most stringent is outboard only.

This Monaro 27 is not outboard but checks so many other boxes. I would need to add a big bench seat behind the two helm seats.

I’ve never stepped foot on a Monaro. Any input from members. Is this worth exploring?

Is a diesel inboard such an awful thing? Seems like this is a boat that has been pampered over the years.

Thoughts? Thank you

At that price you’re getting closer to used ocean sport price. Some glorious tubs in that range. I can’t see buying at 26 year old boat for more than 100k

Understand the desire for an outboard...but...if you are considering an inboard diesel, this is a great boat IMO

These are such beautiful boats! I wanted to buy @turbomack 's when he was selling and moving south. I've watched reviews and read plenty about these Mackinaws and it seems that the engine noise in the cabin can be quite loud, and they are prone to spray over the bow and on the windscreen.

I like these as well. They were on my short-list. Somehow my French-Army knife won the race.

I sold my commander with 1900 hours on the original 1992 Volvo's for $125. That did come with a spare $20k 100lb drive though. Because that's a necessary spare part apparently.

A family member owns a Monaro - twin D4 230hp Volvo diesels. I think it is a 29' (has a fully enclosed hardshell helm/cabin and a larger rear deck).

I've been out on it quite a few times and it rides really nice and is totally useable all year in pretty variable conditions. I'd say the nicest feature is the interior layout. Separate head, functional kitchen, Sleeping area in the bow, plus a second rear berth sleeping area they managed to shoehorn underneath - just really functional.

This one looks to be in really nice shape. Not sure about the single D4 - Monaros ride nice because they have a heavy fiberglass layup - that D4 is working hard. I saw one for sale a few years ago with a D6 - which looks like a nice understressed setup that would still give you lots of access room in the engine compartment.

I keep my boat at Oak Bay Marina, conveniently located next to Gartside Marine Engines which is a Volvo Penta dealer. I have had zero interactions with them but Google reviews seem positive? I have never owned diesel anything in my life and don’t have a clue!
It's essential to have a mechanic nearby for an inboard and for a moored boat, in my opinion.. I'd ask about the leg maintenance and transom assembly, if it's been replaced. Feel the broker out on the pricing, not many Americans looking for a Monaro I would guess. Still, some guys are looking, but the season is close to over, I would guess for brokers, as most people have their summer plans booked.

Lifetimer aluminum boat 27’

CA$159,000
Listed 2 hours ago in Qualicum Beach, BC

with trailer and low hours. Not listed with an unrealistic broker. @Sailfish25 I know it's not what you are looking for but this is good value in my opinion. Sell the trailer for close to 10k if you don't need it.

Believe me when I tell you I’m ruminating over it as I pack for a family road trip! Spoke with the seller - really nice. I might try and get up to Ladysmith tonight but there is already someone coming to look at it. Seems like a screaming deal…

Nice. One of the only boats I would consider upgrading too, and at that price it wouldn’t cost me much. I doubt I’ll see one at that price again.

That boat should have twin 250's on it, not 150's. Quite under powered. Just cruising will be maxing the rpms on those motors.

150s would be fine. That's not a big boat (lifetimers taper hard to the waterline). You'd be surprised what a set of 150s will do with a set of 4 blades. Not a speed demon, but perfectly adequate for most.
Ya it is a big boat and heavy for the 150's. Have fished out of the exact boat. Minimum 225s but 250s are perfect for it.

Mine has 150s and cruises fine. Better than fine actually. It has to be heavier than the lifetimer. 9'-9" beam and an 8.5m length if anyone can tell me what that means. Still haven't figured it out. Might have to ask my high school math teacher.
