I realize that. But we all know the issues this one has. And I'm still not sold that I can run this thing with outboards with any kind of efficiency. Thus the search for a lighter aluminum with the same amenities. For under 250k with new power... the unicorn.

I have a friend in our boat club that has a 28 Uniflite Salty Dog.He removed the twin Chrysler gassers for a single tunnel shaft drive diesel.He got the tunnel mold from someone that did their Salty Dog down south US.He did a beautiful job on the conversion and is happy with the performance so far,hardly broken in.It's an amazing hull,built like a tank,not all boats have to be outboard drive apparently.

Yup,I bought a 26’ x9’6 one 2 years back with a whole bunch of accessories and you could have stuck on your 2 350’s for under 250 k easily.

Single diesel with bow thruster? 26x10 with an EOH dual axle trailer, yes please.

Looks perfect for my boat, just need the 3.7ish for that property in Sindey and I'm in business.

Have you considered selling and just spending 50-75k more on a newer Commander with D4s? It’s a gamble and I/O are a bit high maintenance but I think you may have just ended up with a bit of a lemon. If you love the boat, get the newest one you can find and carry on. Just an idea.

Not sure what you mean by through?
The hull and bits and bobs were done thru Doug .The engines were done thru Suzuki at Port Alberni. Mind you that was 2 years ago.I didn’t put on 2 350s ( overkill) but the price for 2 would have set you way under 250 at the time.

I have thought of this, but I think I'm just done with IOs.

that's where most people head right back to the production shop. I just don't have the time, or expertise, to deal with a project. I would never start a project like that without a firm and fixed price up front. The "you might as wells' really turn that 250k into 400k in no time.
