This is more of a Saanich Inlet report. Went down the inlet yesterday to my old stomping grounds as a kid. Pulled out a nice 11 lb hatchery. Lots of 3-4 lbr. Also lots of green/yellow bass. Haven't seen that in years.

Fish was feeding on immature Herring and small squid. Must be lots of bait around with all the bass in there. Kinda like fishing back in the early 80's.

Yes I myself remember fishing down the inlet out of Halls in the early 80's. All the old fishing spots Chesterfield Rock, Misery Bay, Stone House, Deep Hole ,Powerlines. Fishing was good Back then. Even remember when they had fishing Derbies ( C-Fax Radio)

Probably because there were big herring living in the neighbourhood. No more....

I was out yesterday fishing the powder wharf, had five to the boat and kept a nice 10 pounder.

Thanks! That was our, and will likely be the, second place we will target after Cole.

Tempted to try the herring from the sale yesterday!

Spent the weekend on the water as I couldn’t miss this nice weekend. Spent Saturday/Sunday fishing Sidney Channel, Saturday the wifey nailed this beauty (10#) then we ended up with 5 more undersized. Headed back out Sunday but nothing but little guys today.

Epic day for Jan 18. Sunny, calm and fishy. Nice 11 lber at Coal and a few that were right close to 62 but we let them swim another day. Lots of bait and laughs. Boats around us were catching too! Get out there!

This is a bit of a late report,but was out last week and picked up a 10lber at Fairfax. Tons of bait around, and fish was beyond stuffed with small herring, not the typical needlefish.

Fished around Wain with two of my fellow kayak fisher pals yesterday. We were mostly after squid, and we found a few, but not in the numbers we were hoping for. Just scattered small clumps down at 100+. We're still trying to figure it out, tbh.

We managed to jig up a few salmon, too. I ended up with three to the yak. Two clear smalls and one that was on the cusp. I didn't bring it in to measure - just let 'er swim away. The other guys got a few smalls. LOTS of bait around.

If anyone is fishing Moses point, I’m running the build just around the corner from the big 4 new ones. Mine is flat driveway, more private and facing salt spring and obviously the channel/mill bay etc.
Giv’er an air horn blast and a wave!

“NO”rth Saanich is not allowing it even though there are steps down to the beach. Neighbour has a nice one grandfathered in.

Was down at the James Island Dock and saw tons of bait in the water. Looked like small herring. Went and got my Sabiki jg and caught these. Looks to be small herring, smelt and an immature rockfish of some kind. First time i've caught a smelt here.
