2025 Nanaimo Reports

Got out for a couple hours tonight off Fingers from 5:30-7:30 and boated a few hatch right away and then nothing. A few unders and a couple shakers but it was pretty slow for us. I think we just hit the tail end of the bite. But the evening was so beautiful out there no fish would have been worth it. We really are blessed to live in an amazing part of the world!

Went out at dawn with my son today in front of Shack rock in my Inflatable.
Got a couple of double headers right off the start.
We ended the morning with 3 nice hatcheries in the bag. The Coho were all chasing bait around 40ft. If you saw salmon lower and drop to them it was Chinook. Which we also fought with but released. About a 50/50 for hatcheries to wild mix i found.
Same for us except without the hatchery fish. Very slow and it didn't take long for the "fleet" ( all 10 of us) to start roaming around looking for fish. Quit at 7:30 with only for fish to the boat. 2 wild, 1 really small one and a little chinook. All released gently in the water without a net. Still, another beautiful evening to get "skunked".

We got out late Monday evening and trolled around Hudson rocks out to the fingers. Very quiet night for us. Started trolling back towards home around 8ish and was rewarded with a beauty spring. Right around 25lbs. Long lazy powerful fight. Didn’t take it out of the water, gaff release.
Was a beautiful night with a great finish.

Took the afternoon off work. Loaded up the boat, grabbed some amazing nachos from Top Rope Birria. Dropped prawn traps with my wife and son, and headed over to 5 Fingers to troll for some coho and eat nachos. Well wasn’t really able to fully enjoy nachos as we had non stop action for the hour or so we were out. Couple wild coho, one chunky hatch coho, undersized spring , and multiple hits. Left early cause it was little bumpy for my family. Black apex and black onion flasher at 100’ got most of the action. Naked green apex got a hit or two. Returned later this evening and pick up couple small dinners of prawns. Awesome dayIMG_6681.jpegIMG_6673.jpegIMG_6659.jpeg

Out at five fingers Friday at low tide - had action for an hour or so, 6 on, 3 lost, 3 to the boat but none were clipped. While trying to gaff release one it was thrashing like crazy and whammed his head on the side of the boat - not sure if he made it. The weeds were CRAZY in some spots. Oh - also picked up a massive hex lag screw in my truck tire on the Brechin launch. Grrrrr
