2025 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

Not sure but I would think that unless there was a big, dense school of them they may be hard to see on the sounder??

Squid looks more like lines than clouds.
Kinda what I thought, faint vertical blue lines often fills the hole screen?? probably means they are spread out more than other bait that shows red and orange.
Pretty sure I was seeing them deep, usually starting at 100 going down to 200.
Won't be back in Barkley until next season but excited to get back there.

Sorry, I was meaning horizontal lines. Larger herring can looks similar, I think, but I've managed to target opal squid a time or two and they resembled horizontal linear features instead of the classic blotchy herring clouds.

Like black bombers (rockfish)?
Oh, the marks are still small and resemble bait, unlike rockfish, but they have more horizontal texture and usually hug the bottom. I mean, I've only successfully targeted them a handful of times, so I'm not the definitive guide. I'd just have a squid jig ready to go on the boat at all times if you know they're around. A friend of mine tied up a rig with one squid jig and two or three sabiki-style flashy flies that herring would hit. That way he can drop it into the bait if he's unsure what it is and usually pick something up.

It hasn't been too long. I'm sure he'll find some fish soon.
One of the other members said anchovies worked when it was slow. I caught my biggest fish after sun down with red flasher and herring aid wee G.
green flasher and no bananas skinny g. caught the highest volume of fish, lots of accidental rock fish and a couple ling.
Also tried deep (180ft) with glow hoochie, didn't do that much but had some success.
The green water may have slowed fishing but didn't shut it down.
Keep grinding, it'll happen
