2025 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

bait is small, fish a bit deeper and fast. some nice fish this morning between Ohiat and Kirby.
coho in the mix now. just under the bloom at 50'. the whale show today was spectacular.
west coast tackle sex-e and wee gee with a hook upgrade pulled them in. every fish had micro bait in their guts.

Found some fish at Cree & Mears the last couple days. 50-100 feet, under the bloom. Wegee, skinny g, and ap tackle sandlance spoons doing well. No cohos at Cree as of yesterday, but they could show up anytime.

Water colour is wild.

FIrst trip out to Barkley this season, didn’t make it last season, felt great to get back out in the sound. Had a great run out the inlet Thursday evening, was pretty windy in Barkley but got a toll in from harbour entrance to swale before dark , no takers. Friday morning was calm and we fished Cree to mears and worked that area picked up fish sporadically no hot bite, most fish came from mears down a bit deeper all on spoons. Skinny g size was best out fished the smaller tiny spoons. Was really windy and ruff Friday late afternoon evening had quite the crossing from town after fueling up and resting a bit. Some big water getting back across to swale. Tried Cree Austin mears again Saturday morning but was pretty slow, just small guys. Hit swale for the afternoon tide and got into a good sustained bite with doubles and some good fish. Skinny g size doing good down 80 to 100 . Had a great run back the inlet early evening, great trip can’t wait to get back and fish when all the spots are firing and you can just pick your favourite tact.

37 under 5 lbs? a good time to move or change tactics was probably at around the 10 mark.
fish a bit deeper and faster. use a longer leader too. this will help weed out the lil buggers.

How come nobody talks about Whittlestone? That had to be one of my favorite spots when I was there. Even when it was slow you could grind out a few fish there.

Was out in the snot yesterday as well. Managed 2 small springs and a nice 22lb’er. Better weather today, but fishing very slow. One small and a 14. Lots sand lots of shakers.
