We had a great trip putting in the docks and ramp on Saavedra Island. Getting the power and water working is always a project.
Then some prawning and a little bottom fishing so we could have our prawn and fish taco night.
The weather and water conditions were amazing.
Nothing compares to a Jumbo Nootka Prawn.

Went for a weekend trip out to Nootka with the wife and kids. Fished friendly cove to eagle rock and in along the beach. Lots of action each morning until the tide change. We boated 4 per morning 15-18lbs. Family had a blast. Several more lost. Orcas and Dolphins came through as well. Found a few lings in around the rocks as a bonus. It was windy but overall was a great early trip. Big eye spoons and Loony Spoons with green on them seemed to work. 35ft seemed to be the ticket. Even got a ling trolling at 35ft in 75ft of water. Back out with some buddies in 2 weeks.
I’m so jealous. I can only do 1 trip there this year early Aug. Keep up the great updates boys.

We just got back from our first trip of the year to Critter Cove. It was their annual Halibut Hustle trip which is always a lot of fun. It was quite breezy coming from the West for the first few days, keeping most boats fishing in the relatively sheltered areas around Wash Rock , Beano Creek etc. Salmon fishing was very good, with glow white splatterback hoochies working very well, along with dark green gator back hoochies doing equally well. Skinny G’s also accounted for a lot of fish. Anywhere from 30 feet down on the rigger all the way down to the bottom seemed to work. Most of the fish were teenagers, but there enough in the low 20’s to keep things interesting. Not too many coho around, but did manage to get a few.
On Tuesday the water flattened out like 2 day old beer so we were able to get offshore and did well with Hali’s and lings.

Esperanza was great this week. Lots of teenagers outside High Rock and a few around inner Black Rock if it's blowing too much. Found a nice ~27lber at Pin Rocks. Halibut fishing is excellent, as it seems the long liners haven't been around yet. All needlefish right now with red flashers (WCFT Red Velvet) and WCFT Sex-E Herring Aid Gold and Black Herring (think small and glow) being the winning ticket.

Quick report from the weekend in Nootka. Early morning bite at the usual spots past Friendly Cove. Some springs were full of needlefish and the odd with squid. Seemed like every kind of spoon or hootchie worked. 6-7:30am was the best bite, then died off. Not much consistently after that time of day and it didn’t help that the winds were a challenge after mid morning, but everyone still seemed to get fish, mainly low teens, some 20’s mixed in, biggest was a 30.5 to a guy on his 60th birthday, to win the J&J. Critter Cove put on a great event as always. The coconut cream pie was to die for.

Just got back from another weekend trip out to Nootka with some friends. Arrived thursday afternoon and hit up Friendly Cove/Wash Rock area. The bite was instantly on fire and we arrived about noon which was an hour before the high slack. Different small spoons worked for us, 34ft and 38ft on the riggers. We found trolling faster than normal seemed to give us more action, 3.0 to 3.3kt (watching rigger line too). We found coho and springs on thursday with the biggest spring being 21. Friday was much the same although it was windy. we trolled out way out to Beano at about 9AM and saw a few fish hooked. Water flattened out in the afternoon so we decided to take a run offshore. Found some Halis and some lings and put a few black bass in the boat as well. Saturday was windy as well, bite seemed to be falling off a bit with the change in weather. Still hitting some coho and a few springs though. Sunday was windy, we tried burdwood to get out of the wind and although there was lots of bait we couldnt find more than shakers on that side. Another decent trip although it would have been better if the wind stayed down a bit more. Looking forward to going back out next week with the wife and kids.
