2024 Nanoose Bay/French Creek Reports

Went for an afternoon rip, trolled and got into a nice spring, 13 ish pounds. Nice clean no net release. Mother in law learned why we call mooching reels knuckle busters. Pulled the prawn traps and had a nice haul

Brutal out here😂. No coho but lots of nice springs.

Was out there most of the day, from 9am to around 3:30. Was a little wavy in the am. 10+ wild springs and coho to the boat and a few got off, there’s something out there with my hoochie and flasher, it popped the clip peeled out a bunch of line and went slack. All I reeled up was mono. Seen what looked like a shark fin cruising up along the beech south of the harbour

Went for a fish this morning, lots of hits small chinook and wild coho. Only fished 1/2 hour
Checked my traps this afternoon and a limit for me of nice keepers. To say the least it is a bit sporty out there

Well I had the whole day off today for some fishing and after being skunked at port alberni for sockeye I brought the boat to French creek for some coho. Pretty sporty when I arrived around noon and all the other boats had left. Rare to see that place dead on a Saturday. Managed 3 hatchery cohos, few wilds and a beauty 15 pound spring in 45’ of water that was released

Hi All; My grandkids want to buy me some spoons for fishing off Nanaimo and Qualicum. What are the best ones to ask them for?
Thanks & Cheers; Twogone.

Ive had good luck with herring aid patterns, black and white(cop car) and green and white. Skinny or wee G size.

Super; Many thanks JWS. Is the cop car just plain black and white or the one with scales on it? I'm guessing the green and white is an Irish Cream (or similar). Thanks again; Twogone

Went for a quick fish last night in the wind. Was not really rough but windy(love auto pilot now)
Tried a small plug on one side and flasher spoon on the other, fished 115-55 feet deep.
No coho at all, however hooked into a couple beauty springs must have been 20 pounds each. Super awesome fight , clean release in the water.
I did notice guys netting fish to release which is not really needed to be done IMO.
Have not used my net this year, even coho fishing.
