2020 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

My brother-in-law called from Sechelt yesterday to tell me his neighbor got caught by DFO with a Chinook and they fined him $4,300, took his rods and downriggers, and gave him a 10yr ban on fishing and hunting in BC.

This is the sort of penalty that is imposed by the courts after DFO has forwarded charges. DFO officers can confiscate equipment and assess simple fines, but anything more than that is handled by the courts.

seen this posted on FB, hope its helps people

This is wrong, correct? The purple part. Only 29-1 and 29-2 are open for retention starting July 15. The portion of the purple zone in 29-3 29-4 and 29-5 is still closed for retention till Aug 1.

Do people agree? Otherwise I’m hitting Thrasher hard on the 15th. :-)

Pretty sure this is correct. I think everybody from Vancouver is gonna be at Thrasher on Saturday July 18!

Must off ruffled some feathers at DFO, out in full force today stopped twice by two different boats,

You mean
But the original DFO story was About Chinook retention

The original post could have possibly been posted by a DFO member. Not surprised if they lurk around here. While someone who poaches deserve the penalties the laws impose on them, a DFO member could have twisted the facts about the story on the sunshine coast which is an outrageous poaching and deserves the highest fines and a lifetime ban, they may have twisted the facts to say that it was those fines imposed on someone who retained 1 chinook. Wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't be the first time that DFO does dirty tactics so that they don't have to get their assess out of their cozy offices to patrol the water. ****, if they found blatent and over the top violations that one day they were out, imagine what they could do if they were out everyday like the US fish and game wardens in the US who do their jobs to protect their waters and their resources from poachers. That idiotic commercial guy that set hundreds of prawn traps in a sponge reef does more damage to the existing and future prawn and other fish stocks than what recreational anglers would take out of the waters for many years.

I think you may be right portions of 29-3 are closed to september 1, while the other portion looks like it opens august 1 for 80cm slot. That said northern thrasher 29-2 and area 17-11 open july 15th. There is no mention of 29-3 at all in SOG North

Yes good point. North Thrasher (29-2) is ok to keep chinook on July 15th. But watch those drifts cause no retention in 29-3!
