Darrell I tried for hali at 7 mile with no luck. Over a three day period I did not see one on the dog. I think to get hali this time of year you need to go to the big bank or the shallows.

J-Global right now you can not go wrong. Hoochies worked great on springs and plugs and spoons on the coho.

We tried anchoive for a while and every time we sent our riggers down we pulled up a jack.

Hey Fog Ducker I missed you this time. How did you end up?

Report

The Fishing Continues to get better as we cruise into August , Poett Nook seen plenty of fish weighed in in the mid 30’s , We had fished the outside only , I did not here too much about the inside , but , they were definitely moving in . Shyte is ready to hit the fan , they are at the wall , starting to hold as close as the surf line , there coming !! It’s gonna get crazy , can’t wait… I did not realize the talent of some of the fisherman out of the Nook , several guy’s that really know there stuff , Met Brad over there , this bro Can Fish with the best of them , nice meeting you. The guides are all doing REALLY well out of Bamfield as well.

. So , fished 2 day’s only , Friday , Saturday , 6 – 7 ,and 24 Mile , I stopped counting after maybe 30 fish , but , I am going to guess , the 3 of us hooked into 70 – 80 fish each day, I have NEVER seen this amount of Coho in my whole life , I Could NOT get through the top 20 feet , my 15lb balls were free spooling , Our Coho were between 8 and 16lbs , Springs up to 34 , My Sonar was ready to Explode , the amount of bait was unbelievable , We witnessed a pod of Dolphins hunt 10 feet from my boat ,(24 mile) , round up a huge herring ball to the surface , and all of a sudden , dead bait every where , you could see the racing through the huge ball , slashing them with there tails , you could here them talking to each other with there squeaky little voices ,little sharks feasting on the remains right on the surface , I could have grabbed them with my hands.. ... UN Real ,Total Team Work , coolest thing I have ever seen out there . There were only a half dozen boats out there , it got rough, real quick , I got to find out what these Stripers are made of , What a safe feeling hull , bone dry all the way back , blowin 20 –25 , pretty good slop. The only way to get through the Coho , not allway’s , Large Plugs ,thanks Brad , springs were down at 80 to 110 ish , Coho were , well , everywhere . Thanks for the reports ,Brad , Matt , Ken , Hans, etc… I did not get to SB , I really wanted to , did not realize that it is almost 25 k from Poett , good haul.. As far as colors and gear , It Did NOT matter , as we were eating lunch , put one of our last rods in the holder , motors off, wham , a coho took the white hootchie just lying on the surface , after dealing with that , I reeled up on the rod , hootchie was 1 foot out of the water , 10 seconds later , a fricken Coho cleared the water and grabbed the hootchie in mid fricken air , a 16 lber , we could not believe , insane. All and all , we came back with our limits for 3 , some nice Hali as well , nothing huge , 24 Mile ( rats ) is where they are to be bonked , Anyway’s get out there , have some fun
Cheers…FD….

A few photos , Enjoy…;)

Sweet!!Thanks for the great report and pics. I'm getting pretty psyched about this next week. Looks like our timing is going to be pretty good for inside fishing.

More pic's from the 8th. We fished out of Salmon Beach and headed out to the SW corner or the oven mitt or the upside down bunny or the.........oh the hell with it here are some pic's

The brother in law showing his fly fishing style on the mooching gear:D

First mate Jake with a nice spring (he always gets the nice ones);)

BIG coho everywhere. Hitting them at 45 consistently if they weren't hitting our stuff on the surface as we were trying to get the gear down. Buddies dad caught a 20 lb wild coho five feet from the boat in the motor wash as he was cracking a beer[:0]. Jake caught the spring at 91 with a large anchovie in a purple haze teaser head on a glow green flasher. Yes the water was tea like on the weekend. We were out for 5.5 hours on Saturday and must of hooked into 70-80 fish!

I'm heading over in the morning, should be fishing by noon.
Picked up tackle in Japan and Miami, stuff we don't usually see in the stores here to throw at'em in addition to the usual.

If anything stands out, I'll post it up.

Fishin' anywhere anytime for anything

Nice pics!
I still like the name, "upside down bunny", but will go along with the local name, of "outside southbank"! :D

Offshore is still pumping. Southbank has been great, as has the seven mile bank off Bamfield. Limits of good springs daily, last few trips have yielded 32,38,38.5,39 and yesterday we got a 45!!!

What a beauty fish. Shame is that I had a bigger one on derby weekend that got away on us... Jumped for the 3rd time beside the boat shaking its big ol' skull and watched the plug fly.

So yeah, big plugs and spoons have been the trick. 602,600, 50, 700 have been good. Several I have with no numbers as well. Seems to change daily almost.

Gimee the gaff!!!

Thanks for the update osama. We are in town tomorrow, mooring at the gov and stayin with jimmy so will likely cross paths.Has much been going on inside if weather keeps us in? Heard of a 45 and 47 on the "Wall"

Hey guys, we had a cancellation for next weekend at Mills Landing and if any of you would like to come out for the weekend and fish with Osama I'd be willing to do it for 1/2 price just to keep him fishing...It's Fri and Saturday night in the house at Mills Landing, with 2 full days of fishing for 4 guys, say $1200.

That's the deal of the summer!

We'll be out fishing all weekend so if anyone wants to take us up on that, call the resort at 1-877-728-2301.

Fished Whittlestone this morning till 11am put 6 in the boat between 22 - 30lbs. Broken 2x and sister ran 1 through the kicker motor which would have been her first Tyee. Anchovie and 6inch spoons (Cop Car) worked the best.

Looks like we are making a family trip to the cabin for a few days. Going to be fishing the inside, and I am looking forward to it. Hopefully there are some bigguns coming around the corner! This is a great way to start a much-needed holiday.

I'm driving into Bamfield on Monday(no boat)and was wondering if the Cowichan/Nitnat road was decent. If not, will drive to Alberni and go in that way. tia

I'm heading out again tomorrow - last time we were out we were using 42" leaders for the spoons and hootchies, and a 5' leader for chovies. We got two decent springs and some coho. Anyone else doing well with different leader lengths?

Hey FogDucker - saw your boat at Poett but didn't see you, otherwise I would have said Hi.

,Sangster ,
Unfortunately my " REAL " job is in Vancouver ,Electrical Contractor Only up every other weekend or 2 , get my fix , back to reality, Next time

Cedarman , yes it's a 23 , I believe a 2002 , I am extremely happy with it's overall performance , Comparing it to a Grady , don't know , a Grady is a proven horse , Me personaly , I knew what my budget was , Grady's were a little outta my league ,I knew the wife had to approve of it's looks , I liked the price , Smooth Ride , I did do about $ 15 k in mods ,got rid of most of the factory hardware , upgraded most issues found on Stripers. I really like the newer 23 Grady with the 9"6 Beam , $$$$ , I highly recommend Stripers , there solid , but mods are definetly needed from the factory, next time your at the Nooke , have a look , jump up the ladder...

Fished yesterday evening and this morning at Swale...30, 24, 22 and several 10-12 plus a few coho including a beauty 15 lber. Lost 3 in the mid twenties and 1 pushing 30 (including about a 25 that made it 1/2 way into the net before swimming away[}:)][}:)]...worst netting job I've seen in a while!).
Not really hot fishing...but lots of quality fish around. Incredible amounts of bait...so thick the rods would all start bouncing.
Chovies seemed to be the trick in the morning with green spackleback hootchies turning on later in the day.
