2009-Barkley-Bamfield-Poett Nook Fish Reports

Yep, lot's of fish around offshore right now. We brought home 20 on Saturday from the Bigbank, mostly 10-20 pound springs and 8-10 pound coho. Sunday we got into some bigger boys and boated this 35lber at 7 mile. Lot's of great fishing out here right now. Picture and fresh fishing report at www.millslanding.com

does anyone know the road condition from Port Alberni to Bamfield? Thinking of either towing the boat out there, or running up the inlet. First time out there. Thanks!

I suggest you drop the boat in at P.A. and run down to Bamfield. It is clearly the best option. I drove the road to and from only once, and the trailer took a beating.

Ok thanks a lot. From what I've read so far I take it Clutesi is the best place to launch and leave the truck/trailer for a few days.

Have many springs moved inside yet or are they still mostly offshore?

MRwood we are going friday-sunday this week. Give me a shout if you are around at that time and we can share some info.

Ps i still drool everytime i see your boat out there.

Glad to hear you're going to Bamfield. I'd like to go but I need to recruit someone to go with. Thanks for boat compliment. Were you guys fishing off the green spar bouy outside Nuttal Bay on Fri or Sat. I'm still trying to figure out which boat you are.

just got home and accept for a little water in the boat what a trip!

we worked our gear hard and moved often to find the bait

fished 7 mile for 3 hours and got limits on coho with the largest 16lb smallest was 8lb... no springs or hali on the outside for us

inside fished Kerby, swale, cree and sanford with some success. largest spring was 26lbs

anyone else that was there over the weekend catch 30+ jacks? I have never seen anything like it

Fished Sat and Sun.
Sat - Nanata Island, Swale, Bluffs, Pinnacle, Kirby. The only place we caught keepers was at Swale. A 15 and a 30lber. We towed everything through the water, and eventually ended up with success with a small blue coyote spoon (5 inches). Stomach contents showed 7-9 inch pilchards! We tried matching that with a large plug on the other rod, but no luck. The water looked so murky, I think flashers are key. We did the false flasher for a bit, but no luck either. I didn't see any other boats landing big springs. We fished from 30' to 160' and the two springs were at 102 (the lucky number :). This was on the North side of Swale.
Sun - Swale, Bluffs, Pinnacle, Janit Rock. Lots of coho out at Janit, but most we let go. Fished Diplock and hit another coho, and it looked like Pill was busy.

The coho liked the 5' copcar and a pink hootchie, and were biting from 20-75'. Nice to see so many out there, let's hope it stays this way. We used to catch coho like this in the Strait of Georgia.

The guys at Poett who fished outside (7 and 20 miles) did better than us, but we had a great time on the inside. Saw humpback whales, porpoises, and an orca.

well I guess I should help everyone out and let you know what we used.

When attracting coho at 7 mile and on the inside we used a 5" watermelon spoon and we were literally throwing back 7lbs all day 40- 66 feet

for springs we used a white glow hoochie. Not sure of the name of it but it glows purple in the water. Around 90- 110 was key and through the bait balls.

hope this helps someone

I'm heading up this Sunday for four days and was wondering if it would be worth the effort to target halibut this time of year. I have yet to catch a flattie :(. I have a 20 ft Palmer tiderunner so I can venture out somewhat, just not to far.
