What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Scotty mount was made for it. Got it from Trotac for $89
Beauty, thanks buddy! I was given a brand new in box sea chef bbq but unfortunately they don’t make em anymore or the mounts I gotta pop into trotac this week anyway so hopefully I can modify it to work for me.
 
First post on my 17 foot death trap.

3 sheets of 3/4, 1 gallon kit of west systems and almost a whole case of sika later, and the transom and stringers are in.

Transom is 3 layers of 3/4
laminated together. Cut at 15 degree offset so grain is running in all directions. (I’ve acquired the power and I’m going to need the strength )

Stringers are 2 layers of 3/4 offset at 20 degrees laminated. Bedded in a metric Fish-ton of 291(10 tubes, even though 4 probably squeezed out the side)

What a crap day I had Saturday. Thank fully left home way earlier than I needed to to meet clients in Sooke for 11:30. Got to Admirals Rd and had a trailer tire delaminate and the tread basically tore off a section of fender before I got stopped. 1/2 hr later I had the spare on and bungied the fender into place and on my way again. Splash the boat and have it ready to go and its 10:50 so I think I might as well go put the crabs traps down so we don't have to stop on the way out to fish. I untie from the dock and put it into reverse...nothing...no forward no reverse. I knew exactly what happened as I had the gearcase off the week before for annual maintenance and had checked that the water tube lined up and confirmed by running on the hose it was pumping....but the shift rod must have kicked over and missed the lower spines. I had no choice but to load the boat back on the trailer, drop the leg and get it into place. Luckily it was windy and the ramp was dead so did it in the turn around area. Ended up being 10 minutes late after all that. The reason I always give myself extra time and never show up a few minutes before a trip. Even made it back to West Coast Tire by 4:30 and had 4 new tires put on the trailer. They asked if I expected to get 18 years out of their tires too. LOL I guess I lost track of the years.....they still had lots of tread. I felt better about driving out this morning on new rubber.

It looked like that in the morning and you were fishing Fairfax in the evening?! You’re a sorcerer!
 
Added a pair of Group 31 batteries to handle the power draw of a pair of Dometic electric steering actuators

Finally wired and plumbed an ACCESSIBLE Rule 3700 bilge pump...big PITA, but existing Rule 2000 is absolutely 100% inaccessible and I figured it was just a matter of time before that situation turned around and bit me in the arse and I’d really regret not having a back-up bilge pump

The only pump that is accessible on my boat is a Rule that pulls water from a thru-hull to fill a live-tank....for me, a complete waste of space though it’s nice to know I can keep anchovies alive for the albacore fishing I”ll probably never do....

Now comes the fun part of the bilge pump install...drilling a hole through the gel coat to bed the thru-hull....sweaty palms, though maybe not as sweaty as drilling through the hull to mount a transducer...

New transducer custom mount
I’ve busted a couple of transducers right at the hinge they are too feeble
Putting a thru hull or an in hull would cause me to remove pedestals, seats, floor boards,batteries too much work also drilling a 2” hole in the bottom of my boat seemed weird
Bought a thru hull tilted element and made an aluminum bracket and mounted it where the old one was
Seems to work fine.it fit just under the engine pod with 3/8 to spare so filled the top space with silicone

My boat had a busy week. After catching some sockeyes in Alberni we carried on to the road closure on the way to Ukee for a nap. Everything was fine, but when I arrived at the launch, the starboard trailer tire was rubbing since the wheel was tilted inward quite bit. I launched and noticed in the mirror that the wheel would roll more upright when moving then lean over when stopped.
Anyway, I'd like to give a big shout out to Larsen Diesel in Ucluelet for squeezing me in on a Friday and doing a great job rewelding and replacing some pieces and at a very reasonable cost.
The lesson in the story is despite the incredible power of the 5.0 Coyote motor, next time I will slow down and use the pullouts for others to pass during the stretch between the closure and the travel info building since some parts of the highway are like a mogul field. She bounced and came down hard on one of those bumps. I might also run the tires a bit under inflated.
Then the boat caught some chinooks, lings, rockfish, a sole, and a halibut, so I left her there in storage till next time.

Pulled out of China Creek on Sunday and couldn't believe all the trailer parts on the road out. I said to my cousin we could probably build a whole trailer with all the parts we saw.
 
Busy week as I get ready for a couple weeks on the sunshine coast.
- installed a Trollmaster on the kicker
- extra Scotty base positioned for a trap puller
- more cup holders!
- diagnosed a downrigger wiring fault - turned out to be corrosion in fuse block contacts. New fuse block installed.
- had a drop screen made for transom area. Was a "one of these days" job that suddenly had to be done - need to keep spray off that new fuse block.
- jigging rods and reels spooled up with Depth Hunter and rigged ready to go.
 
Well after the bearing issues trailering to Port Hardy a few weeks ago I decided to replace everything with Timken bearings and new springs. Hopefully no issues trailering to Gold River in a few weeks.

now to start turning the pursuit into MY boat. Can really tell the difference between a boat that’s been shop kept it’s whole life (trophy) versus not (pursuit). I’ve got some work to do!
In my opinion Pursuit is one of the nicest riding hull out there, bayliner not so much, and yes been on both multiple times. Owning a pursuit is on my retirement plan

Nice work, just did the same but I was stupid and didn't do the springs. Did you buy those locally? Mine creek a bit and are definitely rusty...when the boat is done I'm definitely doing these.

Just sucks that Timken have outsourced to China like everything else.

Don't forget the stainless speedy sleeves
 
^^^^^^ Speedo sleeves are a must if your going that far, corrosion on the seal lands will just let water intrude those new bearings and it won’t matter what brand they are
I third that .. stainless speedi sleeves for me as well .
I add a thin layer of liquid PST pipe thread sealant during the install on the spindle and do not cover the grease hole in the spindle with the sleeve.
