I checked out your "pricy" candied salmon recipe on another forum. Your right......pricey!!! I'll give her a whirl however. God hates a coward. I just use about the same ratio of salt and sugar and a can of coke (cheap like borsch).

Lighthouse is on the north end of Amphitrite Bank, South Bank would be on the south end.
Both about 5 to 7 miles offshore. Try to stay in about 135 feet of water, not a lot deeper.

BTW… It is still early enough; don’t be surprised - you find a Pacific Cod floating around that area?

Thank you for the specifics Charlie. Picked up lots of juvie ling cod but no pacific cod yet on the South corner. Your previous post with the map etc. was great. We have a spot for halibut off of Tofino that is real close to your halibut spot on your map.

2 buddies fished Ukee this past w/end, inside at one traditional hotspot still produced and put all 8 springs in their boat from 12- 16 pounds, they did get to 5 mile and it was real slow and only smaller fish( compared to dynamite last year). Crabbing and oysters abundant, lings off reefs big. Didnt see any coho at 5 mile

We were about 5 miles offshore fishing with the troll fleet and a few other sporties on the weekend. They know where the fish are that's for sure. I should have takin pic's of my sounder with all the bait around it was nice to see. Anyways It's a big ocean out there.

Bang On regarding the Banks Charlie. Didn't see much for cod this trip. The Puker's pretty well cleaned them out on the inside Banks years ago, and they've never really recovered. There are a few great spots out on the Big Bank for HUGE lings though, the kind that could swallow a basketball!...

Were you bouncing the bottom? Or, ten-fifteen off? I have caught a lot bouncing the bottom there!

I was really hoping you picked up some Pacific Cod - those are good eating!

On the South Bank and the South-West Corner we drug the balls in the mud. Very little for by-catch, a handful of immature lings and the odd smaller hali.
Outside was a different story... in places. In one locale I had to lift the gear 30+' off the floor, and yet was still tagging hali's way up in the gear! Actually had to move. A couple larger lings mixed in with that, but only the odd quillback for company

My buddy, another friend and his elderly father, and 2 college age boys are heading out for a fish this weekend. He has an offshore boat, and knows the spots out there but is looking for a smooth ride so the old timer doesn't break a hip or worse. The purpose of the trip is to get him into some fish before he checks into a home for the first and last time. The boys' jobs are to stand on each side to keep him upright and in the boat. Any suggestions for some reliable close to Ukee calmish spots? Or do they need to head for Kirby, Swale etc..

Looking for some info.
Have 4 guys looking to head to to Vancouver Island for Springs / halis.
Have been to Port McNeil and did pretty well - limited on springs and halis last year - end July. We did a lodge deal which was fine. Now looking to head back that way. We know a little bit about Pt. McNeil having fished last year. It was good- fish were okay -nothing to write home about but did get limits. We have all fished west side QC for 10 years and got spoiled . Looking for more of a budget trip - not full lodge to save on money and have never been to west side VI- Tofino / Uce area: so wondering if we can get any input from knowledgeable folks about pros / cons of that area versus Pt. NcNeil - mostly in terms of fishing / accommodations and overall situation. We will do one or the other either 3rd week or 4th week July and making decision here shortly to book. Be 4 guys staying / fishing for 4-5 days. All are pretty experienced fisherman, but kinda on a budget this year- within reason.
Looking to probably do a piece together deal - accommodations / fishing charter by ourselves - not group boat things. Okay to take 2 boats. We are fisherman- not guys who stand around taking turns on rods.
I have heard good things about the area but all pretty general. Would be grateful for real local insight and recommendations as well as honest fishing overviews.
Have fished all my life so not a sodbuster ( no offense to them) , but planning something and appreciate any honest comments and thoughts. Thanks in advance.

First choice would be trolling between Great Bear - Alley Rocks, very well protected. From there, if it is early morning and flat you are only about 5 miles from South Bank. Could sneek out there early, before the chop?

This time of year you might also just try trolling right out front, by the red buoy or in front of Little and Big Beach? I have caught fish there. Lighthouse is only 5 miles from there, so on a flat day you could sneek out there, also?

Thanks a lot Charlie, my friend the boat owner is there now and my other friend with the aging father joins them Sunday. I'll send them a text with your ideas. I get my chance in mid-July and mid-August out there with him. Plus Alder Bay in early July and Nootka first part of August in my boat. I love ferries!

Hey all, new to the forum here. I've been up to Ukee (from Seattle) a trip a year for the last 3 summers, and headed back again in a few days. I have the usual spots down (wreck, south bank, lighthouse, rat's nose, etc) but where is 5 and 7 mile, and the SW corner? I also hear alot about La Peruse bank, but it looks like that thing covers about 1000 sq miles!

Backing up a little... June 17-19 Limited out on springs South Bank 1 Coho, some rockers jigging near shore. June 20 Limited out Springs Soth Bank Needle squirt at 149 and american Coyote tiger glow at 137.
June 26 Limited out Springs by 08:30hrs same pattern as previous. Changed models somewhat. June 27 tougher. Not a limit but close. Was with tackle testers but every GG spoon got some interest. 1 Hali at Lighthouse bank Long day and we were near the guy with the present ladder leader. Lost 1 screamer near the boat. Not a $7K fish though.
