I am not sure I understand that logic? Just how many of those “70” anglers do you really think “one” guide missed during that short opening during the month of “May” and at four anglers a day, that would take 17.5 days on the water? Then how many of those 70 didn’t go fishing anyway? Just throwing some rough numbers out and not knowing any specifics, but if a guide was to average $1,000 a day that would be $17,500 versus a catch that should be over $22,000? Sound to me… I’d personally want to be fishing, rather than guiding? Plus, fishing is a lot more fun than guiding? So, I guess I am confused, again?quote:Originally posted by cammer
140 would be better spent limiting out 70 anglers in as many days needed, IMAGINE the tips from 70 happy anglers vs one dino boat?? my math dont lie, sportsfishing dollars win out
Well I can assure you I do not get paid by the Ucluelet Tourism Office and I did not paint a rosy picture for this weekend for anyone who doesn’t know what they are doing. In fact, at this point, since you just convinced me - “you” don’t have a clue, apparently know very little about Chinook salmon, and have no desire to learn, “you” might have a hard time finding the fish let alone catching them? And, how in the world did you relate, “Fishtofino, bud you are the true causality out of this”?quote:Originally posted by cammer
Charlie, you say i dont know or understand my target out there off Ukee, you are right! thats why i talk to the best guide out of Ukee and most well known, its his Job to find them and he graciously tells us if its good or not so good, as well as him, we lso talk with one of the biggest charter Companies there and again his boats are slow, i do believe Charlie and Matt need to get paid by the Ucluelet Tourism Office as you guys are painting a rosy weekend??? soon will find out, FishTofino , bud you are the true casuality out of this and i feel for you guys the most

By "cattle boats" i'm assuming you are referring to those Princess Boats that spend half the Spring/Summer at Portland PT?quote:Originally posted by Charlie
Now with that off my chest!
Right now, you not only have migrating fish… you also have the Puget Sound residents – Starting about now, until the end of June the Ucluelet, Tofino, Bamfield area “is” some of if not the “best” fishing on Vancouver Island? IMHO!
Before anyone believes there are no fish and is taking advice of that nature from someone, would you mind asking them just one thing? What is this “Big Eddy” thing - that some dump idiot I know talking about? And its relationship and effects in regards to the routes Chinook will migrate, take, travel, live, and feed in. It starts south of Tofino - is all the way down to Port Renfrew? Anyone any “good” should start explaining and telling you about the predominant currents of La Perouse Bank and how Chinook will travel with those currents, especially – right now! And yes, the resident Chinooks on the banks do travel in a big circle. If the person doesn’t know or understand this - I would suggest finding another for advice?
Now, I haven’t fished Ucluelet “during this time”, for a few years - but I would be “VERY” surprised to find a lot at “Portland Point”- that would be very much a passing through area. And, if they were there – you better believe I would be fishing it hard, because they will be gone “quick” with the tide and/or currents! Then you will have absolutely “nothing”, until the next bunch comes through! That would be very much here now – gone in an hour fishery! If one does not understand tides and especially currents this time of year – you will be lucky to find “any” Chinooks. This year actually appears more normal with less concentration then last year – as stated by ‘Nog’! Depending on “present” “currents” – those fish could be anywhere; to include, “inside” Barkley Sound! It is sounding they are a lot more spread out, again as 'Nog' stated? The fish are there (probably more than last year), but it is just it appears “most” are not finding them!
I have been fishing BC waters since 1982 - off Ucluelet since 1991 and trust me I know my targets! The first thing I would do is check the present current pattern and current strengths – without even looking them up, I know the different places out of Ucluelet, I would be asking about and in this order South Bank, Big Bank, Rats Nose, the North end of La Perouse Bank, and don't forget Lighthouse Bank. Right now, I would not be surprised if fish were some being taken close in, but would be very surprised if a “lot” of fish were, but that very much goes back to “currents”? I have ran to ‘Portland Point’ and I have also ran away from ‘Portland Point” I also have ran to and away from ‘Eagle’s Nest’, ‘Cree’, ‘Kirby’ and many other popular spots trying to find fish this time of year those are all areas here now gone in an hour. If they are there great - fish them till there gone. They are moving and that is not the main body!
If the main body of fish are not currently somewhere on La Perouse Bank – I would be totally completely be surprised! All you have to do is – find where on that bank they are! Do not chase the fish – find the fish! If nothing else, follow the frigg’n “cattle” boats out of Ucluelet – those guys usually do find the fish! And, I do admit – I have done that often through the years, when first starting to fish that area – talk about a road map!
Just for the record…. I know a person who has been fishing for well over 40 years… I listen while he’s talking to others and the reactions of some… they think he is the greatest thing and he does sound knowledgeable, but he’s not “good” fisherman in that he can catch fish... but can't find them! There has not only been “one”, but “TWO” of the “BEST” anglers I know who are currently fishing that area and they both just posted, there are “LOTS” of fish out there! So, I guess I would have to believe – there are “LOTS” of fish out there! Finding the fish has always been the hard part - find them you will be happy, but do not just set at one location waiting for the fish to find you!
Just my final 2 cents!![]()

Actually I would disagree with that assessment. On this thread you have heard from myself, as well as VERY</u> Experienced Guide, and another who studies in depth what happens off our coast. And it appears that those who have actually been there perceive there are not only fish to be had, but quite a few in fact. Additionally, there was some rather significant information passed along regarding movement patterns and gear reliability.
Toss in a few posts that well indicated the prevailing mindset of a few of the Armchair Warriors, and methinks there was, and is very much a point to the thread overall.
Want decent reports? Might kinda make sense to go out and create a few! [}]
