Tyee Tales....2011.....Live And In Color....

Mr. Painter was bellyaching just the other day about how he couldn't even buy a fish. I figured if anyone deserves a fish more than Dave H it's Painter, so I kept a good fishy thought for him. And it worked! Glad to hear it's switched on for him. Now it's your turn Dave.

ya Dave i knew it was a custom from Catherine, she told me last year that she did a few customs for her dad, i emailed her the link to the club so she could see, and by the way it's Catherine Forbes now, lol,im happy for him, he's a great guy, Catherine at one time held the record for the biggest tyee hauled outta there, i think it was a 52 lber when she was 8 years old, man i'd really like to get out there and giver a go b4 the 15th;)holmes*

My sister leaves tomorrow (Fri) and I'm free this weekend but have three guys ahead of you Holmes.
When is the best time for you to get out here?
PM me and we'll get you in the queue. LOL

Take care.

Wed. nite found me and my little sister attending a small dinner party on the lawn of Granny Painters old place.
Dinner featured a couple of nice chunks from the 24 1/2 Karl and I boated last week, corn on the cob, salads, home-made bread and some liquid refreshments to help it all down.
Cooked over a pit fire in the front yard, barely 100 yards from Painters boat docks, we enjoyed a beautiful evening watching the Tyee Pool and its faithful attendees from a different viewpoint than what I'm used to.
Nothing new to report fish wise as the last one came night before last at 30 1/2 lbs. Another new member but still not a good number for Tyee sized fish at this time of the year.

Stand by rookie rodholders as we're getting down to the nitty-gritty so I'll be calling you shortly.

Take care.

Running back to Discovery Marina around 3pm , I was waved off by a rower on the outside of the Tyee Pool. While I was nowhere near him I swung wide as he had a fish on.. He gave us a wave of acknowledgement . That was appreciated. Was that you Dave?? There were only two boats in the pool.

Not me but I'll see what I can find out.

Few guys out right now but a mini-whoosher c/w rain just now happening so a few have come ashore.

Frustratingly few fish so far.

Take care.

Three new members between two rowers the past day or so and one of the rowers, Ken Fletcher, is the guy who built my boat. I had a great chat with him a couple of days ago and found out more about it, including the cost of the wood involved and that it has a solid Teak brass lined keel, amongst other things.
Anyway, the next few days look really good weather-wise so I'm looking forward to contacting a few of you to get out.

Stand by and.....

Take care.

Good luck-- The Tyee Pool fishery is really unique and special even to an angler like me that is firmly attached to his outboard!!

Two years ago Holmes, on the last nite of the season and just at dark.
I was out and watched Shawna fight that fish. My trusty rower CC and I had a double-header that nite....lost them both. CC then hooked up again and lost it. That morning he'd lost another one but his pal boated a Tyee. Heckuva day.

Anyway, today, Monday, saw a pod of Orcas pass by twice. Saw the group this AM headed by a big male then following a mile behind were four more, looked like a smaller bull, two cows and a calf, all headed north and being leap-frogged by boats.
Six hours later they passed by heading south, followed not long after by a large pod of what I think were Pacific Whitesided dolphins and then a smaller pod of the same....all headed south.
Absolutely gorgeous evening in the pool but a noticeable lack of action tonite.
Should be nice weather fishing if not productive for the rest of the week.

Take care.

Two more Tyee registered this morning and it appears maybe new fish moving in too.

Looking forward to tonite.

Take care.

Still nothing much happening Tyee-wise I'm sad to report.
23 registered but nothing for two days now although we all thought some new fish moved in when the last two were caught.
Frustrating for sure.

Nice evening with Lazoman and his companion but no strikes for us.
Fished hard last nite also but again with no result.

Pal Karl up from Vic today so will be hitting all tides the next two days.

My muscles are sore already. LOL

Take care.

Thanks for the evening row Dave, it was a great night out there ! There were 30 some boats out there, and we heard one fish on in front of us. We were in position when that biggun jumped a few times 20 feet behind us, but no bell ringers. Good luck the rest of the week, and I'd go again if you get stuck without a trusty rod-holder. And, that 'companion' of mine has outfished me before !

Still nada new to report.
Major effort with pal Karl last nite and he's on his second go out today right now (another pal rowing) along with a few more daytime dehards but at last glance...(three minutes ago) nothing to report.

Frustrating for sure and now it's blowing a bit too.

ah well......

Take care.

Don't have anything useful to add, but I wanted to comment after reading the entire thread. This is amazing! It's so cool that there's a motor-less fishing area. Thanks for the pics too. Really neat to know about, I look forward to following this thread in the next few weeks

Thanks Rob.

Note the third pic down that the rower in the other wooden boat is the guy that made mine, Ken Fletcher.
He's visiting from Ontario and using his daughters boat. So far he's rowed a 34 lb Tyee and had his rodman into three other fish, all lost with one broken off even.
I can't get a sniff these past two weeks plus my pals managed to break the starter rope on my ancient outboard so I've gotta get that fixed before going out again.
Oh well......maybe next time.

Take care

Some of us like to eat the springs Nom Nom Nom.
If I won't eat it, I throw it back to live another day.
Most of us, also donate, and believe in enhancement.
You're kind of yacking at the wrong crowd.
Might be better to start pointing at commercials who fling their bycatch over, not caring if it lives or dies.
