Made it out fishing on the Hyson all weekend......on my own boat!!!:D. She performed awesome and served us well. All the mods and overhaul paid off big time.

We fished just outside of the pack both days. Used mostly medium herring in teaser heads and caught most of our fish at around 60 feet. Not alot of coho but some that were fun for a short fight before releasing.

A few shots

We finished today off with a couple of halibut as well. We used the left over herring on spreader bars at a small hump out there just off of the starfish.

Can't wait to head back up. We had so much fun.

Sorry I didn't call you Shawn. Next weekend for sure buddy.

Thanks Pippen. The other guy is his brother. They had never really been ocean fishing on the Pacific before and were pretty excited for sure. I think their hooked as they were talking about buying a deep fryer on the way home:D.

It slowed right down today......... had to work for them a bit, for a change. All we need is some westerly winds to complete the package. LOL

Today the Inshore Coho either got lock jaw or moved on as well....we did have the first rain in quite a while yesterday...

fished sat and sunday out at southbank then starfish. should have left for hycene earlier but whateves. Had to grind on sat unfortuenately but got 8 springs and 2 hatch coho with a few tyees in the mix. Released a half dozen or so wilds. 31, 32. Sunday was retarded. we had 30 or so fish to the boat in the first 4 hours up to 31 average was 25. Big spoons and plugs both days. No halis for us.

hey folks, Going to uke/tof next monday for three days.... I have my own 17ft glass cc boat.... just wonderin if you could point me in the right direction.... offshore or my first love is fly so any round about spots in the sound near tofino.... or just look for kelp and feedin fish... You can PM if you want. Thanks in advance for the help and it sure gets me goin lookin at this thread. cheers

Hey Bub,

Glad to help if you do launch in Tofino. Our Fly & Tackle is on the main street as you drive in, so stop in for details on the inshore Fly program which we specialize in, as well as offshore. You will have to watch the conditions offshore with your 17 CC but it has been very feasible most days this month.

Shop looks like the pic below..

Thanks tofinofish, I'll be in around noon on monday..... ya hope the wind is light so I can get my dad out there.

Some friends were there Saturday and Sunday and slayed at the Wreck including 4 Tyee up to 38lbs using mainly plugs (158 was the best). They said lots of big fish coming to the cleaning station.

We will be back fishing out of Ukee Friday-Monday.

Looks like quite a storm blew through yesterday.

Well last weekend was more than interesting to say the least. My hunting buddy, his buddy, and my buddy Steve headed out to the Hyson again on Saturday.

Steve came up for the day and hooked a couple of nice fish for sure. It was Steve's first trip out this year. I always bug him because he likes to just use a white hootchie with a green stripe behind a plain red hot spot flasher all the time no matter what depth etc. (pretty boring!).

Well the green and white hootchie was the hottest lure of the day by far. We all switched over and were wacking fish all day on it!

Steve with a couple of decent fish.

After a few fish in the boat it slowed down so we moved over near the Wreck. We heard some great reports coming from that direction. We wanted to get our bottom bouncing out of the way so we started jigging for halibut.

Steve and I jigged the bottom on one side and my hunting buddy started cleaning fish while his buddy jigged shallow with a buzz bomb on the other side. We picked up a few halibut and the buzz bomb side kept wacking pinks on almost every drop. I don't know which was funner but it was pretty awesome action going on.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

This picture might explain what happened next.

While drifting and leaving a nice blood trail this guy shows up to the party.

He even took a swipe at a pink that didn't get reeled in fast enough. This is the first time I got any half decent shots of a shark out there. We guestimate it was about a 7 footer. My son hooked one around the same size last year and he had a pretty wild ride playing it before it finally broke off.

Sunday was a different story all together. We really wanted to head out to the Hyson again for some springs but she was socked in thick with fog and there was a call for some SE winds to kick up at anytime. The wind held back and the swell picked up a little but the fog was very thick.

We wondered onto the banks very slow and fished the Turtle Head for about an hour and had lots of action with small fish but no bigger fish showing up. We decided to move out a bit and try some other contours etc. with the same results.

We headed in to just the edge of the bank in front of Ukee and tried for some halibut. No luck either but while trying my hunting buddy thought he was hooked on bottom but it was giving just a little at a time. Total dead weight with zero action the whole way up. We were all guessing a piece of rock or something. Nope...........

The tentacles were at least 4 feet long or longer. We have had small ones slink into the prawn traps before but nother like this one.

Really cool weekend. Lot's of surprises. That's part of why I love fishing the WCVI
