Sooke Boat Launch

Oh I know...

Do you really think you are not paying for the park grass cutting? lol Who do you think pays for your public works crew and materials they use? Check your tax bills! Just because there is no specific drop box for every service a municipality provides doesn't mean it's for free. In fact nothing is free.

That would be the "General Revenue" portion of your municipal taxes.

I am a rural resident and my money goes straight into Christie Clark's offshore account :(
Seriously though, everyone knew this was coming at the public launch. I personally like the public launch, but i like pedder and cheanuh etc... I just like to fish and I will gladly pay, although free is my favourite price. So lets keep the complaining to a dull roar and get out there and hunt some winter springs!!

As far as I know Municipal boat launches in Victoria such as the ramps at Cattle Point continue to be free to all as are many other launching and parking areas on the Island. In Campbell River the very expensive to build and maintain fishing Warf is also free. This was done to insure Campbell Rivers dominance as a sport fishing Mecca. I would see no problem with Sooke charging for a limited period to upgrade the launch with a cleaning station, fresh water wash down and more truck and tailor parking. But have some question if it were just to become another general revenue user fee. Sport Fishing is a huge economic generator both directly to Sooke area business and indirectly to municipal taxes. The more they encourage it, the better the economy of Sooke will be. Perhaps the Sooke Municipality would be willing to share the fees for Salmon enhancement and to help support the new Non Profit Society which is dedicated to insuring that Anglers get to Keep and expand fishing opportunities on the south island without which the Sooke Economy would be seriously negatively impacted.

Point taken Rockfish, and I totally agree, but you are kind of comparing apples to oranges. I lived and guided in CR for many years and the Pier has its own revenue generation built in already. Yes it is free to fish off but it has rentals and ice cream snacks etc... I actually got married on that pier and I guarantee you it was not free.....plus the revenue from the markets it regularly holds. As for free launches, the ones in CR are not much fun....get in there and clear out the driftwood first off the ramp with zero place to hold your boat, much like Mill Bay.....

I agree with you it may be about money....but its probably more about the neighbour charging and then the free guys going to use his cleaning station, and I cant blame him either, would **** me off guys using my facility and not willing to pay

so if I launch at the public ramp and park at Jocks is that $20 or $10. Sometimes Jocks does not have enough water

We have forgotten that the ramp at Jock's was built to service there marina before Sooke Harbour marina was sold to a resort group that is there now.I have heard that Jock's will collect the ramp fees and I also recommended to Sooke District that they do like Sidney does with there ramp. What about signage re: no wake and speed limit. The sign they have installed is so small and people think it is for the launch.
