Sage blank Alternates - 3106SA

With Sage blanks now basically unable to be fixed/replaced, I am looking for opinions on alternative options for back ups. Preferably as close to the 3106SA as possible… Titans are out for me due to multiple failures.

Any stand outs to check out?

Did Sage fold? Or just go straight fly rods?

Fly only , asked Farbank about the warranty last year and got this :

Thank you for reaching out. Gear rod graphite is limited and we no longer produce graphite for gear rod repairs. Current repairs are handled on a case-by-case basis. If the rod is a factory-built Sage rod and the material is available we will repair the rod under the original terms of the warranty. If the gear is a custom- built rod and the graphite is available we will cut, fit, and send a blank section as well as the original section(s) sent to us so the customer can harvest the old hardware. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with.

Basically SOL if you break one

Ouch. Times change.

I've always surfed eBay for my fishing equipment. Five years ago I picked up a root beer 3106 from Japan (of all places) for $200 ..used but in good shape

Last year I picked up a Greenie 3106 ...also from Japan. Shipped to my door for $240. I was amazed there wasn't a bidding war...brand new, unused rod...sexy piece of equipment

Last Fall, also from Japan, a Sage X 8136 fly rod for $300 on eBay. That's a steelhead killing machine for half what i would have paid in the US

I have a couple of their 11'3" center pin rods as mooches but they are to light for heavy dowbrigger use..I don't see a good 1262-1264 blank in their lineup except for the all glass models which are heavy and action is too slow.....am I missing something?

So I just found a Sage CT 4110 at a reasonable price. I've heard some Luke warm comments about the CT 11'3 so this one got my attention

I did own and use a CT4120 a decade ago but sold it for a song because it was just too much of a stick and too long for my boat

Any body have anything to say good bad or ugly about the 4110? I have two 3106's that i really like but Ive always felt they were a bit too limber for a C&R fishery, especially if you want to get things over with and get the fish on its way in good condition ...I was hoping the CT4110 might have a bit more jam?

Thanks for any comments on that rod

I've had a 4110 for 20 years. Love it. Lots of back bone and you can pull on a fish. I've always liked heavier rods and don't get the light rods lots of folks use. I dont want to be under gunned on a big spring or a 100 lb halibut.

Quick question about rods- Sage specifically though really because they have been expensive forever. If the rod isn't for casting or being used" in-hand" to catch or feel the bite. But instead the rod goes in the downrigger/rod holder, is it worth the premium? Those eBay deals being an exception. Actually reasonably priced. Just wondering not judging.

A high end rod usually has some features like better sensitivity, lighter weight, better cork, better guides etc. You have to decide if it's worth it. It won't catch more fish. Other less expensive rods will do the same job. The same can be said about reels as well .... islander T3 compared to a diawa Moocher. You call .

The 4110 is a stick, significantly more power than the 3106. The are what you want for C&R of large Chinook. I also like the 4100.. I love my two 3113s but yes they are a little light. Great for winter springs or mooching for fish under 30#....
