Prince Rupert bound

Had problems posting for a minute.Anyways Rainbow as I stated earlier ive been up to Rupert 3 times previous with a guide and his 31ft boat.Everytime we've went it's been flat calm just don't know what the sound can bring when she kicks up ,but I imagine it can get pretty bad.All we can do is watch the weather and try to get up there early in the morning.Looks like once we get up to Wales Island theres lots of places to hide and fish.

I forgot to mention Rainbow if your looking at the Kingfisher's seriously consider the 2825 as far as handling the big water it is twice the boat as mine.Just wondering Rainbow most of your fishing there has been up Work Channel?

I have never been to the Work. Our fishing has been done at squaterie on the north end on stephens island, Eddy pass, Humpback bay, and Lucy island. I am no expert on the fishing in Rupert but I learn a bit each year and may eventually get on to it. Learning on your own is most of the fun and it increases your skill level while you are trying to figure things out. What do you think it is that makes your boat ride poor in the rough stuff?

It handles the rough water fine its just that the 2825 Kingfisher is a little heavier and deeper .The 2425 is a fairly light boat makes for good performance though.

Northern part of Dundas- fishing -- you better bring a net for over your head- have never seen as many huge flies in my life-

and yeah there are a FEW good fish then- but not like mid to late June- no matter what the 'experts" are saying here

Thanx sheephunter i'll be sure to bring my repellent, and we know we are a little early but maybe all that snow they got up there this year will get them salmon running for home a little sooner.

I have a 2425 as well and love the boat. Every boat is a compromise of one thing or another and this one fills my needs of towing, speed, range, rough seas, etc. I feel very comfortable offshore and being inside a cabin after years of open boats is the best for me. I just came back from Barklay sound in all that rain over the weekened and found fogging windshelds the biggest problem. I would like a defrost/heat system and intermittant wipers..any ideas Peege

How do you guys find the gunwale height? When I stood in one of the Kingfishers it seemed the gunwales were barely to my knees. When you lean over the sides a bit it feels like you may go overboard. I like to have the gunwales well above my knees.

I don't find them a problem. The aft gunwales have the rails where you fish and net and the lower fronts are easy to pull the traps in. I've never felt unsafe in the back even in some big water. There was one time where we didn't stand but sat on our pails and slid about the boat. Then we gave up and went inside and had a comfortable ride back in.cheers

Thanks for the info Peege. I have been researching boats for a while and like to here the first hand info from boat owners.

Chauncey - You'll get more responses to your query about Port Alberni if you post in a thread about PA or create a new thread.

Welcome to the forum...

In 2003 I helped to run two boats from Port Hardy to Rupert. We only got to fish for about 4 hrs and then had to fly home. Fishing was good, but we didn't have any bug spray onboard and the mosquitoes were terrible.

So, note to you, bring bug spray as you may actually need to use while fishing.

Again theres always tradeoff's Rainbow the gunwales are a tad low. That's to make room for all the fuel she packs, and theres a big floor locker that is way to handy for storing rope, traps, hali's etc.Just wondering where you fish out of PEEGE and what power you run on your boat.Haven't seen to many Kingfishers out there yet just wondering if ive seen yours.
