Can’t beat those tax rates and like I often say, with today’s construction costs you are getting a lot of buildings/docks with the waterfront land thrown in for free.
I can’t agree with you more Bryan, my wife and I made a conscious decision to stay in Courtenay ( I could have lived anywhere as I’m in forestry and logging) we bought acreage for the horses and haven’t regretted it for the last 35 years. The fishing was better for us on the east side than Nootka this year as we had to go earlier. We fish Hardy as it’s an easy pull up there. I’m 10 minutes to Comox Lake and 15 minutes to the Comox Marina after the sewer upgrades are complete along the dyke in a couple weeks, we live in paradise.Well-- I am retired. I live north of Courtenay in the rural area. Taxes are reasonable. I trailer my boat . Choices are Union Bay ( not suitable for a boat over 25 IMO ) Comox Marina-- good ramp but lousy parking, Moorage in the Marina in Comox is packed---Expensive. Point Holmes and Kitty Coleman ramps leave a LOT to be desired. Shelter Point resort has steep ramp with good parking...... Right now the homeless in Courtenay are not a pretty sight-- so lock down your boat and trailer and anything else you want to keep owning. But , even with the negatives , the Courtenay / Comox areas are still prime areas to access great fishing and a great great community.
Come up to the north island, the fishing is great, and no foreign buyers ban hereAfter all the talk about Campbell River I drilled down and did an extensive search…I’m a skier so Mt Washington being so close to town was also a draw. So I found the perfect place and called the agent
Then I ran into the brick wall of CMA/CA and the ban on foreign ownership…silly me…..I understand the reasoning behind that law but still….
So…
I’m going to start looking for a Canadian wife. Must be willing to get up at o-dark thirty and stay on the water until it’s too dark to see your herring spin.
Everything else will work itself out….
