looks like the other 2 are somewhat done , heres # 3 fellas

I think this a really important issue , DATA from all Sportys Annually , All the Stamp proceeds to go to our team , help with the big picture out down the road , I don’t know how this would work as far as where or who the funds go to , you guys figure that out ,put it in trust or somthin , use it for lawyers ???I don’t know ?? open to ideas from everyone on this one !! maybe its not feasible , im sure the funds could be used somehow !!! at $ 10 each , 50k – 100k stamps ?/ $500 k $1M a year , hmmm

How do we assure our catch records get submitted ?? don’t say impossible , theres got to be a way ! The numbers might not help this season , but pretty good info in the years to come , hell id even leave the slot in place for one more year if we could implement Catch Recording !!!
would tags somehow be an option ?? like hunting perhaps ?? im not a hunter lol , ?? does it not work for them ??
Lets get some input here guys , this one is pretty important ta everyone I think..
Cheers

Hey felix the vote button wasn't attached. Other problem with polls is the question has to be phrased in a way which does not lead the answer - kind of like the first poll on slot limits - it leads the answer because you don't know the context in which people completing the poll took the question. For example, if you ask me my preference only I would say no slot period. If you ask that same question in another context like given a choice between closing the season in July as opposed to using the slot to extend to the end of August I would vote hell yes.

This is why polls are tricky. I voted for $20 stamp, but if i didnt know where that money was going I would vote for a $5 stamp. I would be willing to pay $5 and maybe even $20 just to insure that the data the DFO is using is correct even if the moeny was used as toilet paper or a small fire to keep folks in ottawa warm. The catch data to me is very important. I would also love to see it by region and user group(guides and lodges, locals, out of towner, out of country folk)

Also keep in mind that if the money is used to buy hali quota back (which i am not even sure is possible) at 100,000 anglers at $20 a peice is only 2 million bucks. which is enough to buy around 34000 lbs right now or 3% more then we had this year. Which is small but over time could add up.

ya the first poll was abit of a **** show , but i think we got the point , as i said ,
it will be one of the answers on the final [pole out of respect for the guys that voted it in
im not tryin ta **** guys off here , just putting **** out there , take it for what it is , A poll lol,,simple...
and i have never done this before , cut me some slack , seems ok so far..

Sorry, not trying to sound critical, just pointing out some of the problems and difficulties we have had doing polls. We designed a fairly extensive freshwater poll for the BCFDF and when we presented the data to the FFRAC process that was one of the responses we got.

10 bucks, catch and record and MUST be submitted, and funds MUST go to either a lawyer or a trust of some sort, we should not have to buy back quota. the fish in the sea are all of ours already and were gifted away illegally IMO.

Oh. I voted $20 stamp on basis it's used to buy back quota as as much as I know you all think we shouldn't have to, fact is its the only way we will get more at a quick pace

Yes, and I do like the concept of using polls to get some quick feedback. I also very much appreciate you taking this on at a time when you are clearly very busy at work..who has time for any of this stuff these days. Thank you. Just pointing out perhaps the obvious to some, but after spending countless hours designing what we thought was a comprehensive survey for the BCFDF only to have it back handed as pointless during a FFRAC meeting was more than a little frustrating way to learn about survey methodology...trying to help avoid that for you.

I voted for $20. As long as the money is used for the catch data compilation and or conservation/enchancment of our west coast fisheries. The reason that I suggest $20 bucks, (believe me I would like to only pay $5), it is so that when we look at the data at the end of the year, we will know that all of the tags were purchased by anglers that actually intended to target Halibut. We don't want it to be free or too cheap so that every one just says yeah what the hell just put me down for the tag, its not that much, I probably won't go out for them, but at least if I have the tag I can catch one. The idea behind the tags isn't for permission to catch a halibut, (or to make money off of the tag sales), it is to collect data on how many anglers are intentionally going out to catch Halibut, and how many fish are actually caught each year, it is intended to remove the guess work (by DFO) in determining our yearly catch and pressure.

I voted 10 and record ,as long as the funds are NOT used to buy quota. Not because I do not think we should have too,but because it is a shortcut to a temporary means and the harm it will do is far greater than any short term good some of you may think it will bring. In the end it would only pave the way for us having to buy quota for all other species.

Not sure how the user fee laws are set up and if they would allow us to use the money directly or not????

Also I would imagine DFO would want a good portion of the stamp fee it to pay for the added administration attached to compiling all the catch data that would be generated from all the licenses being turned in at the end of the year. If there is no mandatory return of license then the stamp will do nothing more than give an accurate count of how many targeted or planned to target Halibut.

I fail to see how it would help us stay within our 2013 TAC for a longer period but I am 100% in favor of a stamp and recording of catch if that catch data actually gets used to build a data base that can be used to accurately measure the needs of the sport sector.

I kinda see where you are going with these... Dog F#@ker.

I voted for the 10 limit and the 20 surcharge. I pay that much just for the privilege to fish steelhead...Others for the chance to get a sturgeon.

For me the chance is about 0% to get a hatch steel, but I could go to the stamp.. Those paying the same to catch a sturgeon have about the same 0% chance of eating something. We still do it.
As FH said... as long as it goes to the right spot...

You got it Lippy! We spend so much money on our passions then we can even calculate. Whats a few more bucks spent in the right way. Ive bought the steelie tag and not even fished them that year! Its just part of being an angler and supporting whats RIGHT! But its only right if we get to see first hand the benfits of spending those extra dollars!

NO STAMP. I think it's a pipe dream that proceeds would go towards acquiring more quota and even if it did why should we pay for it? You know what would happen they would only lease us the quota not sell it so we would have to pay every year. Might as well buy into the experimental program.

Catch record only if there is an annual limit. No sending in your lic to DFO they won't use the data provided and there is a lot of personal info on there an identity theif would love a copy of your fishing license.
