Regarding both the tuna and salmon offshore let's compare catch numbers. I can tell you after sitting in many meeting with the commercial fishers they seem to think they own a common property resource just because they have licence and from time time have to remind them about that very fact.

I agree with your point but just for arguments sake, they each paid $100K-$300k for their license back in the day to be able to fish from April 15-Oct. They also paid another 100K -500K for their boats. It was not an inexpensive fishery to buy in to and when they started there was not a sport/rec fisherman on the west coast of the island or the charlottes. So from their point of view, they paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for access to a resource that they no longer have much access too. Of course they are going to try their damnedest to hang on to the little bit they still have left.
That being said, the FN/commercial portion is partially ex commercial allocation gifted to them from the buyout and allocation gifted to them out of thin air. They want the rest of the commercial allocation, some more thin air stuff, and as much rec allocation as they can swindle. Once they get that, they and DFO will just continue to push for more. This will be a non stop battle moving forward.

Whose betting haida gwaii is one of their main targets? Maybe Tofino too as alhoustat (spelling?) has their commercial rights based fishery there.

The province has spoken now on this issue. Wow I think we are all doing a good job. It is very rare where the province gets involved in anything fisheries.
