Lack of enforcment....complete joke

ILL sound in IT just does not look professional if they want to go fishing do it on there own time in there own boat , they are representing the RCMP they shouldnt be doing it.
Next will it be ok because they are on a break to set up tin cans in a gravel pit and start balsting them with there pistols?????

I really dont care what they do but they, just doesnt look good thats all.

First of all, I realize that not all of us on here are grown up's so I'm good with all the comments I've got coming my way....I don't hide behind anything especially a username....
You got something to say to me simply send me an e-mail or call me...

The RCMP photo was taken on a tuesday and from what I could tell their were 6 people on boat.
2/3 adults and 2/3 children...

I saw them out at least 4 times in this particular spot which is along way's from hardy....believe me....

This is BS, enforcement boat 30 miles from town and 12 miles off shore bottom fishing, don't care if they are on a day off or coffee break. The guys that aren't on days off should be using that boat and gas to do enforcement They are not doing surveillance, the only guys that fish out there are legit operators.

I was also told that the officers could not be at the docks between 5 and 6 in the morning to check these bogus operators because that is when they do crew change and it would not work for them, made me laugh. Guess if they were told there was a huge drug deal going on at that time the drug dealers would be good to go.

What do these non compliant guys have to worry about? Nothing!

I will also continue to keep my boat in compliance and up to date for the safety of my guests, but do not see anywhere in the near future where enforement is going to get these hack jobs in their unsafe boats that are undercutting legit operators off the water.

Wow this thread is weak! If you were busting your butt, working a camp job like these guys, away from your families for extended periods of time and got a chance to spend a couple hours fishing, wouldn't you take it? I don't mind forking over a couple of my tax dollars for RCMP morale to make my waters safer. Richmake and others... don't you recall the RCMP taking millions of dollars worth of cocaine out of your waters a few months ago?? I guess that was just luck.

Some of you just don't get it! I agree these guys probably deserve a bit of R&R/break but that point is actually missing the point of why they shouldn't be doing it. If I was RCMP I'd love to go fishing in their boat after hrs too....BUT!! As I got into on my post above, it would be against Gov policy to use government equipment for personal use /gain. Simple really.

First of all my post on the bottom of page 1, was making a joke of the whole thing. No big deal on taking the vessel out for a run for a little trip. When I took the RHIT course at Bamfield with the CMRA, (coast guard aux) which went from 0800-2000hrs for 4 days, you will not hear me say that we could practice after hour.:D Lots of gov employees can use their computers at work, and some cannot, it all depends on the head boss? I bet there are lots on this forum that get some good perks at work, so please don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.:).....BB

I'm not sure just what the situation is here, but before they took the RCMP boat out of Tahsis a few years ago, I chatted with one RCMP member about it.

I was told that quite often when they patrolled in the boat, they were on their own time - no pay. There was nothing in the budget for doing regular marine patrols. If they wanted to do them, they took the boat out on their day off.

Also, if it is their day off in this incident, perhaps they have an arrangement to pay for the fuel they use. Might be worth a call to the detatchment to ask them about it.

Now I can be pretty hard on police when they screw up. But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Also, if you got into trouble out there, wouldn't it be nice if the RCMP boat was fishing near by? Unlike most sports fishermen, I bet they'd be the first one to pull lines and race to an emergency.

I just can’t get worked up about this, especially if they are on their own time. If it comes down to it, these guys will put their lives on the line to rescue you. Now if you want to talk big time waste of taxes, don’t get me started on another Federal Govt. Dept with a Billion and half or so Tax Dollars which seem to be able to waste much of it while doing very little for our west coast wild salmon or the support of sport fishing.

I am thinking that what Chad was trying to point out was the lack of enforcement this summer, well in our area anyways. Locally we were told that the funds for enforcement were not there and the man power would be a problem putting together. After many phone calls and texts with regards to illegal operators in the area and giving them exact dates, times and location. Still a no show by local enforcement, and this is on land, did not need to be in the boat just at the launch. So the salt in the wound is seeing them 30 miles away with halibut rods in there hands. When all they had to do was drive down the road.

How do you get funds for enforememnt if you don't go out and enforce? Especailly when they just have to show up, all info was given.

I only seen the fisheries once out this season. I saw that boat in question this August. they were fishing but I cant remember where it was, I think it was Ferrer pt. Thats not the boat that does the fisheries enforcement.... The big grey Zodiac is the one that does the fisheries enforcement.
Once again, it was nice to see them out there actually enjoying themselves.

Not too long ago an RCMP officer who was posted to our community in Haida Gwaii purchased a brand new boat before he moved here so that he could take advantage of the fishing. I am sure that his expenses for moving the boat here and to his next posting on Vancouver Island were covered.

Wow, you'd think the fishing had died down already if this is the biggest thing we've got to ***** about.

And what is the matter with that??? The Federal Removal Guidelines allow for payment of all personal possesions that are moved with the person. He has been posted--- his possessions go with him.

Its the least that can be done to lessen the impact of disrupting a persons life.

I've got a solution........if they covered up the rcmp logos on the boat with why, then it's just another boat on the water with guys that like to fish in their leisure. Would that make you guys happy?

I didn't say anything was wrong with that. I was simply responding to Fishtofino's comment about Officer's moving too much and not being able to own a boat.

I was under the impression that ant boat moving costs weren't covered

I know several RCMP officers with boats. They make a decent living working for the RCMP and can afford their own boats. If this picture was forwarded to the RCMP detachment with a complaint these boys would probably get in some hot water over it.
